Have you seen it?

Very interesting statistics...How do they know it?
Find yourself and your stats.
Is it legal?

It's not a ranking of any kind, it's a list compiled from portfolio size. There was a thread about it in Anything Goes.

What it does show is that only 33,000 contributors have images in their ports (despite the SS claim there are 300,000 odd contributors). It's legal as far as I know - all the information is already available, it's just been compiled into a list. There isn't any sales data included if that worries you.

I haven't seen that thread in Anything goes and I don't worry :)
I'm just a little surprised with such stats :)
Well, I don't like it :)

I noticed a while ago that the information about the number of contributors is no longer at the main Shutterstock page. Just number of all images and images added per week. Maybe they realized how misleading it was, to claim there are 300 000 photographers and illustrators.

It's completely meaningless info. It makes no distinction between vector artists, videographers, and photographers, and just indicates portfolio size. Which we all know means nothing since there are people with sub-1000 image portfolios making thousands per month and people with 10,000+ images making very little.

i found it to be an interesting site.

it is curious that it only lists about 33,000 artists whereas SS quotes over 100,000...even if a person gave up on doing anything more on SS i would still think their portfolio would show up on this stats site...unless perhaps SS counts a new artist anyone/everyone who takes out an ID even if they have not had any images approved yet....that would mean the vast majority have not passed the 7 out of 10 test and have no portfolio yet???......

rounding off a little - here is a brief summary of some of the data on portfolio sizes [assuming the total number of artists (contributors) is as they say about 33,000]

~10% of contributors have more than 1,000 images

~50% of contributors have more than 100 images

~33% of contributors have 50 or less images

the original poster is the one who found the website that has this shutterstock portfolio size data.

my summary is just that. i looked at the website data and grouped the data in a way just to have an easier/simplier way to make some sense of this info.

i tried some variations of the website name to see if something similar exists for DT. since DT does provide sales data it would be fun to do some correlations between portfolio size and sales. i could not find a similar website for DT.

I noticed some folks on that site have a negative number of "new work." I wonder if that means they had rejections?

I also noticed that even though these illustration folks have huge portfolios, these don't seem to be the best selling (not that I have a lock in on that magic). I also see alot of similars.

Hi folks,
I watched this site and I've found one thing - here is short abstract:
Buy our report about sales of 51 contributors! You'll get:
- their ports sorted by "most popular" (screenshots);
- list of 51 contributors with their gallery links;
- detailed stats of sales of last quarter of 2011 (tables and charts);
- tables and charts of uploading activity (how many he uploaded and how sales changed of it).
Just $27!

I watched their list of illustrators. Anita, Zsooofija, you are on list!
Like sample they give stats of Kirsty Pargeter -how many sales she had every day and so on.
I don't know if people from list are happy...

Wow, I'm speechless

Are the sales numbers made up ? Did they hack the site ? Have the contributors on that list actually given their consent ?

If not, this seems like a serious offense

Perhaps they are using data publicly available through blogs etc. ?

Anita, zsooofija, do you have blogs revealing monthly sales stats ?

@ Thomas:
man says something like - authors gave to him these numbers (???)
It looks like somebody sold own or stolen stats... or he takes from blogs indeed... this story smells bad!
Girls, may we know how this Mr.Serge has got your stats?

Indeed. Seems like a scam too. But then again, he/she needs to pay for the site. Maybe they get the stats directly from the artist? Very weird.

Using Google Translate you can only get to the order page. But the rest is in Russian (I think because it's a secured page). Seems we can only contact him through the Russian side.
