I actually like the gradient on this one, but you're all going to tell me that it'd get pinged for lighting, right?

Would the subject fly if I cleaned up the reflections of the bowl?

I just love the trolley-something lacking in second shot-uneven lighting and composition doesn't hang right

With the cinnamon shot everything is just all too brown. I also don't think a bowl that size works with the shot. Cinnamon is added usually by the teaspoon and there is enough room in the bowl for a couple of cups. I would have either put a set of measuring spoons in the shot or a very small blown that holds about a tablespoon.

This is a very minor point but I would also show the side of the grater that has the very tiny holes which is what would have been used to grate the cinnamon. If you have a micro plane that would be even better.

Also think about adding other things used for baking in the shot. That bowl could be used to hold flour, perhaps some milk or eggs in the shot as well. You can go with two types of shots, one just showing the cinnamon and then the next set showing more of the baking process with the other items.

I agree, also I would have balanced the lighting and lost the reflections. Kinda has that Plop and shoot look.See how this tells a story?

Thanks for replies. The grater and bowl are actually very small: the grater is only about 5cm high and the bowl would definitely not hold even a quarter of a cup of flour. I had supposed that the cinnamon sticks would give a sense of scale but I guess not. I do have a micro plane but thought that would trigger copyright issues. I did take some shots on a different background but I didn't like them as much.
Ok, back to the drawing board....

I had a feeling that the grater was the little one (I have one as well. Mainly used for grating garlic). As far as the micro plane goes there are no problems with copyright. I have several of different kinds and have used them in many shots. Just clone out the name.

I've checked the data and it was shot at f11. On here people seem to recommend not going over that very often.
So what should I have shot it at?

You do remind me of another Kiwi newcomer who only shot power towers for his first 10 while he was surround by pristine, natural beauty.

It's like getting a skinny stick of carrot when I sit down in a steak house and I am surround by mountains of BBQ spare ribs, roast beef and lamb racks ;-P

I do wish I am surround by such resources, otherwise I would have spend more time outdoors, hopefully not to feed the golf-sized mossies. Kenny123 is in his element, hopefully with a bottle of 12 year single malt to keep him warm ;-)

Here are another couple of shots taken at the same time using the exact same setup (practice shots, obvioulsy not for stock.)
They don't look as OOF as the eggs. Do they?

Unfortunately the weather hasn't been cooperating to allow me to get out and shoot. It's either been teeming with rain, or really windy (and my tripod's a heap of junk.) Add that to the fact that when the weather IS cooperating, I need to use it for constructive stuff, outdoor chores to get done before Autumn and Winter hit.

And with the price of petrol these days, going for an hour or so's drive to take practice photos is a luxury that I can't afford right now.

So the "pristine, natural beauty" will have to wait until the weather and wallet allow it, I'm afraid.
