Any idea about installing a new processor in a Macbbok pro? Or even which one to buy? |

Laptops are notoriously difficult if not impossible to upgrade, particularly Mac other than installing RAM. They're just not designed to be upgradable.
I would say don't even think about it. It's probably better to just sell your existing MBP and put the money towards a new one if you want a faster processor. |

I heard that Apple is about to launch a new Mac Book pro - much faster than the current one, and as slim as the Air. Should be launched end of this month, beginning of April. |

Again… nobody is talking about the biggest iMac problem – dust in display. If you are planning to buy iMac, be aware that sooner or later dust will appear between glass and display (if you’re lucky) or inside the LCD panel. Since you’re going to use it for Photoshop be prepared to see dust spots on your photos. In my case they appeared after 6 months. Since then Apple replaced LCD twice but now I’m out of warranty and now I’ll have to pay replacement.
Just write “dust in iMac” or “iMac dust spots” and read forums and after that you decide if you’re going to buy iMac.
iMac is great machine, stable and fast but dust in display while working on photos can be a huge turnoff.
I recently wrote a post on my blog concerning this subject, but I don’t
have time to translate it from Croatian to English.

Wow, had mine for more than a year and no dust, you must live in a dirty environment :-) |

I've had mine for almost two years and no problem with dust. I am trying to figure out how it would get in because the display goes right to the edge and appears to be sealed to the top, bottom and sides. |

I've seen more than 30 iMacs in 3 different countries (Zagreb, Amsterdam, London) and every single one had dust problems. I spoke with a lot of people and every single one had dust problems.
Even the people in Apple service unofficially admit the problem so you must be very lucky guy if you have dust free display.
Maybe you don't see it or don't care for it. Try to open white image in full screen and then look at the edges. If you don't see any dust I would like to know the model and year of your iMac if it's not a problem. |

I process images almost on a daily basis and have put up a completely white background and have not seen any dust, smudges or anything like that. |

Ditto, but owned for 3 years. I live in quite a dusty environment and the only problem I have had is dust getting into the disc-drive and stopping that from working properly. I was still under warranty, so Apple store cleaned it out with compressed air and it is now working fine. No other dust problems at all. |

Unfortunately I do not work for Apple!
Although I must admit I bought their stock at $35, sold enough at $225 to recoup my initial investment, and now that it is sitting at $615, I guess I still own some $47,000 of their stock :-)
Like Dave I am processing images every day, doing my email, forum work and searching the net for stuff on my 21 inch iMac and have not seen any dust, so I do not know what that means relative to your experience,, other than your environment must somehow be conducive to this.
The problem I have is that there are no fans in the iMac and the heat dissapation is out of the slots near the top of the unit, since heat rises, it is difficult to imagine how any dust could get inside this way while the unit is turned on as it would be transported in the hot air upwards and away from the unit.
Other than the intake at the bottom where the memory cards reside, and the DVD slot and SD card slot on the side, the unit is sealed, so once again difficult to imagine how any substantial amount of dust that could cause a visible problem could enter the unit?
I wonder if we are talking about the same beasts'? |

Let me add another technical question to the original. Would you spring for the SSD drive? It's $500 to replace the 1TB drive with a 250Gb SSD. To then add a 1TB along with the SSD is ANOTHER $600!
I'm doing some long-range planning, replacing my work PC and home PC. At work, I save my files to a network so I don't need much local storage. At home I will probably make a couple of external hard drives. |
