Looks like we had an affiliate who decided to use istockphoto as a search word to sell ShutterStock services. We have since turned them off.

Thanks bitter for posting my personal email address - I'm sure every one of your affiliates/members/users is an angel....(edit: he removed my email - I wonder why? I was having a good time communicating with his users)

Also -- thanks for sending your users over (some of them have emailed me already)
I'm just going to send them here:

Hi Jon,

Do you find which person did this? Because I don't think you or Istock can imagine to do this... It's not professional at all! Maybe someone whom is jealous when his/her see the success of both site?

I can't believe they jumped into conclusions just like that (well sometimes I do but after 10 minutes I think again and correct my mistakes :p).

Oh well as Jon said .... some customers for the other 3 more direct competitors ;) through the link

Goodness... after reading the thread they really have no idea do they????????

They seem to think SS itself did it... when the first thing I though was the correct thing (a referal grab)

There are some very loyal people there at Istock... I guess it is the whole exclusive thing (which I dont understand... would need to pay me ALOT to go exclusive)

Well back here we have an old saying, that goes something like this:
"When the plate is empty, the dogs fight".

What IS wrote on their website is foolish, imature and very not profesional.

You keep things like this to youselves among the site owners, and don't attack other in public. I don't belive my eyes, and I'm seriously considering if I'll continule to supply IS with photos.....

Well - have to cash out first..... Could take about a year or so....

Hello,

I did update my blog http://amateurphotomoney.blogspot.com/ yesterday, and I saw someone asked "Do you think that comparing these business models is accurate? Don't they work differently?".

I did post my answer there http://amateurphotomoney.blogspot.com/2005/04/earnings-of-more-than-50-u_111483545427260765.html#comments but I also would like to hear your opinion about how valid and accurate it is to compare those services like I've been doing on my blog...

Thanks !
Celso.

I'm glad theres a nonpartisan look at the competition out there.

The numbers clearly say what we have been -- ShutterStock pays out more than other micro stock sites. The .20 isn't that little when you consider that a ShutterStock subscriber can download 750 images -- and a subscriber from the other services can only download one. Yes - they pay .50/image -- but images get downloaded more here.

So the reason to go exclusive is?

The reason to go exclusive is that you can NOT opload your rejects elsewhere, and you can NOT sell your own pictures, and you got to put up with all kinds of rules and add on top on that that you might be verbally attacked public on a forum. I don't like that kind of behavior....

Today it was SS - Is it me tomorrow ??? Thats how I think, and thata why I don't think things like this should be disgussed in public, niether on their site, nor on this, but now its out on the table its better to vent our opinions.

Thank you for your comments Eskild.

We are not in the habit of mud slinging. Nor or we in the business of calling our competitors out in a public forum.

I have been watching this thread closely. If it gets to the point that everyone is just bashing "the other site" I'll close the thread. It's tacky.

It's ok to vent in public, and it's ok to explain yourself. We have always been about free speach. Lets keep this thread on a civil note.

Thanks!

I totaly agree. Things sometimes get out of hand. Even I can sometimes get lost in a discussion.

Greetzz from Belgium,

Patrick.
