I'm disappointed to see the removal of the filter option. As much as I admire the work of those who create some wonderful vectors, I am only interested in seeing the most popular photographs.

Please, please, please SS keep the filter gone. I'd love to see the entire list of the Top 50 go away actually. But I'll settle for losing the filter and effectively cutting the vector list roughly in half. I had a few images in the Top 50 in recent weeks and the copycats are coming out of the woodwork in droves. One guy pretty much duplicated my image, right down to the same placeholder text. It's really hurting my ability to do my own new work in a series because it will now look like I'm copying other people.

The Top 50 lists do nothing but make it difficult for us to maintain the uniqueness of our work.

If the Top 50 was costing you money, would you still want it the filter back? Would you want the list at all?

It was not, since I never was in top50. There are much more submitters who never was, right? But it helps me staying in trend. It's important.

Staying in trend isn't important. Staying unique and original is. My Top 50 images are never trendy, not technically or artistically exceptional, they're just unique and useful. At least until they hit the Top 50. The people who copy my work after it appears in the Top 50 don't ever overtake my images in popularity, they just eat into my sales enough to make my images irrelevant, along with their own. An image hits the Top 50, a dozen people copy it, and then all of those images are worth far less.

The Top 50 cannibalizes sales for the people who have images there, and breeds sameness and unoriginality for those who use the Top 50 to decide what to draw or shoot. No one benefits from it.

The Top 50 also makes it impossible for me to continue a series once the copy-cats get a hold of it. Someone copies my images, then I upload a new similar image in my series, and all of a sudden it could look like I'm the copy-cat. I can't risk my account getting suspended because a copy-cat accuses me of copying them. So as soon as an image hits the Top 50, it's dead, along with any other similar images.

SS really needs to get rid of this feature. It's hurting artists. Or allow artists to opt-out of the lists.

Bingo. That would be the best solution.

(Not that I'm ever actually ON a top 50 list :-)

I just sent a note to SS to request some sort of opt-out function. We'll see what they say.

Fingers crossed...

I have never looked at the top 50! I don't want to be the same as someone else. But since there is no such thing as an original idea, I have things that other people have done. But at least I know I didn't copy somone else either deliberately or accidentally.

It's easy enough to accidentally copy something you have seen a few years ago without remembering.

Best to keep it gone.
