I'd love to learn I'm afraid I don't have much in the way of equipment though other than my canon 7D. I don't even have any way to edit footage. |
Just doing 15 sec clips, no editing doesn't require much at all. when you start doing stuff like Transistions ,Titles,Music etc,etc thats where it gets scary. I had to Take a 3 week class because I wanted to do Little Personal Films and I do a lot of tutorials and Record workshops and stuff. For stock , Just turn it on and count to 15. If your PC, A good inexpensive Program Like Power Director is great or Windows Movie maker is free and comes with windows. If your Mac, Imovie is free and comes with your machine. I use FinalCut Pro which is a pro application used by Most Movie and TV editors and Very Difficult to learn and runs about a $1,000.Im Learning after Effects and Motion Now. HUGE learning curve. But Like I say just doing simple 15 sec clips is really simple. And your 7D is perfect for that.Anytime you feel your ready Lets set a time to Talk on the phone.I can save ya a lot of time.I made all the mistakes so you don't have to.All ya need is your camera and a tripod. Forget all the other stuff.Just like stills. Simplicity rules and Concept wins and with your daughter and The perfect model. Your there.Anytime girlfriend.. |

Laurin, what sort of dolly are you using? I was thinking of making one but not sure I'll find the time. Would like to play around with panning time-lapses etc as well.
:) |
You can also use this (very affordable) and for 360 degree movement add on a telescope star tracker (I know sounds crazy) but it's a wonderful set up. I love it!

Doing 15 sec clips is a total no brainer, recording good audio with an SLR is a lot tougher.!
When you get into video's that have upwards of 50 layers, and are 8 mins long, and you are winning awards then you know you have made it into the bigtime.
This is a Gold Telly award I won in 1995, while working for AMPEX, following year while working for Philips (yes the big Dutch company), I won a Silver Telly for another 8 minute video containing the 50 layers segment. Interestingly enough we both on FILM not on VIDEO, 35mm film won the Gold and 16mm film won the silver the next year.
Laurin asked me once, why I didn't get into video here at SS, and it is quite simple, once you have been at the top of the food chain, it is hard to go backwards.
As I said to get to the top it took a Pro 35mm film Camera, a pro lab to digitize it, and some $1,000,000+ of digital video processing equipment and about a weeks work. I just don't feel that there is anything I can do that would satisfy ME with a $3000 SLR that has crappy audio.
When I get back from New Zealand I will try to upload somewhere these two videos, so that you guys can see what it takes to win awards from pro societies.

True Jeff, but audio is not a major factor in stock. In fact the most successful clips have no sound at all. Leave that up to the editors and stock audio/music =) |

Funny, I am the Service Implementation Executive at my employer for the Philips account in EMEA. I am Dutch, based in Ireland, working for an US company ;-)

Okay you have convinced me, my kids have spring break this week and I know you have your big event next week so I'll email you sometime after that and set up a time to talk. But if my home videos that make me motion sick(and I'm not even kidding)to watch are an indication of my skills then I have a long way to go.
Thanks everyone else for the comments, I am already anxiously awaiting my next EL hopefully it wont take another 3 months to get my next one. |

A video for stock can easily be done on Windows Movie Makers which is free.
All you need to do is cut the video so you end up with a xx second clip.
If that video from Dave scratching his armpits sells everyday, I am sure there is some money for all of us. LOL |

Yes Katrina, that was my point (I think, LOL), it is hard to go backwards giving up that much control.
I guess it was much easier to give it with still images :-)
I almost forgot, and don't want to hiJack this thread, back to Jenn and many congratulations! |

I actually cut the clips "in camera" as my laptop is incapable of handling HD video. |
