You can use Photoshop bought with a student discount for comercial use. The only restriction is you cannot transfer your licence to another person, only the eligible user can use it.

That's true. I was speaking to an Adobe rep and he also confirmed the following which some may find useful.

There is no upgrade path in the student version meaning if you want to go from 5 to 6, you would have to buy the student version of 6 at the full student price but the student discount is something like 80% so it becomes irrelevant.

However, you can upgrade to the commercial version from the student version.

If anyone does have a student or faculty position then it's a fantastic deal. I got the full Creative Master Suite 5 at an 80% discount direct from Adobe on my faculty card.

It's worth signing up to a course just to get the discount.

I have CS5, purchased by my daughter-in-law for me with a student discount. She's a teacher. Works the same as the regular retail version.

Don't waste your money on Corel. Nobody in real life uses that. Adobe is worth the money, is extremely user-friendly and gives trust-worthy results. I have a friend who is a pro and uses Adobe Elements. It's a great program, and no one uses all the tools in the bigger version anyway.

Agree.
