Here is a link to a sample video...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cn1Pe34Vge4
the resolution is apparently 'medium' (720p) Not sure how to change this...

I realize the composition is poor (tilted, ugly pot in background, 'lighting' change at about 1/2 way through caused by a passerby's shadow, etc...)
But I need to know what else is wrong with it and if anything at all is right with it!

I edited it in Imovie....I also have After Effects and was able to straighten the video but from there I couldn't seem to render it properly to include the trimming I had done (from 30 sec to 10 sec) so, yet another program I need to play around with....FUN!

thanks for taking the time.
ps...
THIS IS JUST A TEST!

Tanis :)

I can't view it it says it is a private video, you need to change the setting to unlisted then we can see it.

What problem are you having? Is it rendering the whole 30 seconds? If so, move your CTI (current time indicator) to the place you want to be the end of the video, then hit the letter "N". That will make that point the end of your composition. Then, right click in the gray bar above your layers and click "Trim Comp to Window" or whatever the heck it says (my mind is stalling at the moment!), then render it.

As far as the video itself:

1. Should be longer (10-30 seconds)- I realize it may just be shorter because you just posted a short segment of it but I HAD to mention it! ;)

2. Could use a little more light on the left side. You could use shadow/highlight or curves if it doesn't degrade the quality too much.

3. Yes, it's tilted.

4. As is, it's pillarboxed and would be rejected for that (the black areas on the right and left sides). To correct this, you'll need to change your composition settings to match the source footage.
In case you don't know how:
- Click on the original footage in the project panel (Upper left part of the screen unless you've changed the default layout). Then look at the little thumbnail in the upper left corner. It'll tell you the dimensions and framerate. From here, you can do one of two things:
-drag your original footage onto the "New Composition" icon at the bottom of the project panel (and it'll make the composition the same dimensions and same framerate as the original footage) OR, if you've already placed it in a composition, then right click in a blank area in the composition panel (at the bottom of the screen) and choose "Composition Settings" and change your dimensions there.

Wow, thank you so much for the detailed descriptions of how to correct things!
I really like learning new software and, although AE is intimidating, I WILL figure it out!

When I tried to render the clip, it did the entire thing so I will play around with what I've done just to see if I can fix it.
I may have played around with the dimensions when I straightened the clip...is that what messed it up and made it 'pillarboxed'? There are so many new terms and labels to figure out with video editing!

I am going to start with a fresh, new clip. Make it longer, compose it properly and post again in this forum for you and whoever else cares to critic it.

Thanks again!

One good thing about After Effects is that if you've done any work in Photoshop using layers, it's basically the same thing. There are some differences but the basics are the same (opacity, blend modes, etc.).

AE can be a bit daunting at first but the more you play with it, the more you realize it's not that difficult, especially if you have any kind of a Photoshop background.

A few good resources if you're trying to learn AE:

http://tv.adobe.com/product/after-effects/

http://library.creativecow.net/tutorials/adobeaftereffectsbasics

http://library.creativecow.net/tutorials/adobeaftereffects

http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/

(Be careful with the last link (videocopilot) - Andrew Kramer has a somewhat dry/corny sense of humor which he interjects into his tutorials AND you can quickly become addicted to doing all sorts of special effects!)(Example:"Hit the letter 'W' for the 'wotate' tool")

Feel free to PM me if necessary with any questions and I'll get back to you as soon as I can (or if you need an answer quicker, just post here and I or someone else will answer it).

"Wotate" lol!

Thanks so much for the links. Another few late nights spend by the ambient glow of the computer screen and I may just begin to know my way around AE...
