I'm attempting to put together a collection of potential images for a first submission, and I'd be glad of some help/suggestions/advice. To date I've been a hobbyist who enjoys taking photos, so I know I have a lot to learn.

Hopefully I've cropped and resized these correctly for this forum.

Out of focus, low commercial value (are you posting a silhouette?), composition issues.

Where do you think the image can be used? If it is travel photograph, then this place should be easily recognisible.

The part of the construction on the right is distracting.

For a silhouette of a weather vane, you want it to be at least a little more prominent, without the distracting elements, as mentioned above. Somewhat like below:

But the focus isn't sharp enough, so this is just an example for compostion.

yes that crop is a better composition, but as said before it's not sharp enough and even with better composition it probably would get rejected for LCV (lack of commercial value).

Keep trying, and if you need to know how sharp is sharp just say so and I'm sure someone will post a photo to show you.

Very low CV. sorry.If ya wanna do architectural stuff. Look for shapes and shadows, A graphic design, Not just an underexposed thing that has no shape or sense of place.There are interesting Images everywhere. You job is to see them.And Like I say. There is 50 great shots even for stock that are 30ft from where you are right now. There really is. Look for the shape, The light,The angle.Turn around and look in your room. The play of light. A piece of something. Everyone always thinks they have to go someplace. You don't.

Heres 3 examples for ya. Very simple Old school stock that everyone stopped doing many years ago in favor of business people. Im re-visiting this stuff now and I have about 75 Images like this of just stuff around the house. Zero artistic but Probably will sell nicely.And thats why were here.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'm starting to get a better idea of what's required from reading these threads. Now to figure out how to improve my own photos.

A duck, really? You're not starting out on the right foot!

(Nothing personal, but there's a stigma attached to posting duck images here - I'm sure Barry will be along shortly to post a link to the original duck thread. It's quite humorous.)

Why how dare someone post one of the fastest flying waterfowl type Birds man they move like 100mph it is ridiculous to even think anyone would want to try and shoot one that is unless they were using a twelve gauge@!

It is soft because of your DOF you should be able to distinguish the hairs as well as the eye and it is underexposed.

I think the sharpness may be passable (maybe) but it is really underexposed so it wouldn't pass for uneven or poor lighting.

I wouldn't submit cats or dogs unless they are spectacular. Make the cat do something unusual or wait until he does it.
