Trying another image. Not sure if the composition is too much of a snapshot

Additional crops

Crop1 (3rd picture) is a 100% of the first photo.

I understand the "soft" comment and some of this may be due to the f stop that i was using. I need to experiment with this lens to find it's "sweet spot" since going back and honestly looking, a lot of the pictures are not what I expected.

To sharpen it up a bit, do you have any suggestions (other than to get it right from the shot).

Would also appreciated any comments on the composition. I thought about cropping down, but is it better to upload an uncropped photo and let the buyer crop or to do it myself.

Thanks for the feedback. Was exactly what I was looking for. Trying to get myself grounded with the basics and then will work on pulling the images together for submission.

Not always the sharpest tool in the shed, so thanks for being patient.

The 100% crop is what you should shoot for as a full-size image. Or close to that.

I think the confusion it that it is not 100% crop so we just are thinking it is another image. If it is 100% crop then this is too small to submit. A true 100% crop will only show a very small portion of the head and eye not almost the whole body of the bird.

We can't really give you good critiques without 100% crop. If you image is out of focus then there is little you can do to save it. If it is only slightly soft then yes downsizing can help and a little sharpening can help but if it is even just slightly more than a little off the reviewers will know you sharpened it and they will reject it for oversharpening.

Here is what a 100% crop should look like and what a reasonably sharp photo should look like:

Thanks. I think we are saying the same thing :).

My 100% crop of the bird is what the composition of the picture should have been instead of the full log and background (thanks wiml, digigandalf and jhuls for pointing this out), and if I recomposed this photo to what was suggested, a 100% crop would only show the eye.

With that said, I'll take a look at this again and play around with the image (more from a learning perspective). This probably will not fly since the crop would really reduce the image too much and there won't be enough detail.

Again, thanks again for all of your comments! I really appreciate them. Now I have to just get out there and take some pictures.
