Went to Aperture Priority on my D300 this afternoon and noticed I did not see the electronic analog display(the scale that shows the correct exposure). It flickered on briefly then gone. The scale comes up in manual (M) and Shutter Priority (S) but not in Aperture Priority (A). I've gone over the manual and a David Busch manual I have for it. Stumped. Any ideas?
Thanks, Jim

Take out the battery, let it sit for an hour.

Put it back in and perform a factory reset, it's in the manual.

Good luck

I checked out the D300 manual and see no reference to a "factory reset". There is a shooting menu reset and a custom settings reset. Nowhere can I find anything about taking the battery out etc.. Not sure what you are referring to.

The analog scale will only appear if the camera can't achieve the correct exposure for the conditions. When it appears it is notifying you the shot will not have correct exposure so you can make an adjustment. In Ap Pri mode the camera can always adjust the shutter speed to make the exposure correct for the aperture you have selected. Even thought the shutter speed may move far out of what you need for hand held shooting, the exposure will satisfy the conditions.

Yes, that is 100% correct. After studying up and further checking I see it now. I hadn't used shutter priority for quite a while and thought the scale had appeared as it does in manual, always up. Seems the older I get the harder it is to retain all these little quirks, menu settings etc.. Thanks

All's well now I take it then? So maybe this info isn't useful anymore, but there should be a button somewhere, if I'm right, but maybe there isn't on the D300. It's a small hole you have to stick a toothpick in to reset the camera.

I only had it for a short while. The D40/D40x have it....
If the manual doesn't tell you where it is I'm probably mistaken.

The bit about removing the battery is in the manual.

Welcome to the club! Sometimes I wonder why Nikon does not offer a full manual only dslr. All I want is AF and metering. Maybe a D3m? Maybe for half the price of a D3x? But that's my wierd fantasy. LOL!
