My son dressed as a knight. Would one like this be a good candidate for stock?

The standards for stock are very high. For an image like this you would need to see every hair (eye lashes, eyebrows etc) sharp and clearly defined.

As above, this is extremely soft to the point that it looks like you either missed focus or tried to handhold the shot in poor light.

All in all, not going to cut it.

Thanks, I used a tripod and therefore must be missing focus, maybe try manual instead of auto. Even used a cable release!

A couple of things: First, as far as composition, I think the shot could be better if there was some space to the left. Shoot it horizontally.

Second, yes it's out of focus BUT you should notice that yourself before you ever post it here. If it's very slightly out of focus and you're not used to SS's standards, then it's helpful to get a critique on the focus so we can tell you if it's "there" or not. What concerns me more than that is that this image is pretty badly out of focus and you apparently didn't notice. It's difficult to fix focus issues if you yourself can't tell it's out of focus. This one looks like motion blur since it was shot at f/8 and 1/25 sec. If it was on a tripod, then either the camera/tripod moved or your son moved or you had VR/IS (vibration reduction/image stabilization) turned on. (If using a tripod, make sure that's turned off or it can actually ADD motion).

As far as the concept goes, a boy dressed up as a knight is a good idea, but I don't get the pose. Put a hand-made wooden sword in his hand and get some action shots. Add a dog playing with him. Use the same imagination as a typical boy would use while playing as a knight.

I knew it was soft, but I guess I need to see more sharp photos to see how very out of focus, I guess I was hoping to find out why. Sorry. I do not have IS on my camera and so it must be motion blur. I will go away and practice and learn. Thanks for your response :)

I have a few of those also, same issue though, OOF. Will work some more with my camera and try again at a later time. Thanks for your time :)
