Now this could have been a very good and interesting shot. Yes there were some issues especially in composition to my way of thinking but I like the tone of the shot and the mood. With some adjustments a shot like this could work.

Not everything that is accepted sells. There is tons of stuff that doesn't sell, I've done the maths. ;)
The "newest" search is not a good place to compare one's images to others'. The "most popular" shows what sells.

I don't know why but somewhere along the line I got the impression that newest images would be indicative of newest or current trends and that the older submissions would be more indicative of yesterday's fashion.

You're welcome. Personally I feel that some reviewers are too generous, so the newest doesn't show what buyers want. There are too many images that won't sell.
As a matter of fact, I think that's why buyers don't bother looking at the newest as much as they used to.
As for your flamingos, the second image doesn't have much to offer, but the first one could have been much better. For example you could have shot the whole bird and isolated it on black. I really like the way the feathers look. It should also be a bit brighter, but be gentle with the delicate color of the brighter feathers.

Thanks mate. These birds are just "down the road" so to say and as such I will be shooting them again.
