Obviously not Geoff in NZ, he posted his moon sideways, this is what the moon looked like in NZ the other day, note the position of the sea of tranquility and sea of crisis :-)

I'm just hoping for some clear sky on the weekend to get a half moon shot. :-) |
It always seems strange to me that here, in Arabia, the half-moon lies on its back rather than standing up. Presumably its possible to deduce the latitude of the photographer from the angle the Sun illuminates the Moon (or the angle of a pair of surface features).
Frankly, if you were all joking around why did my jocular "gotcha" remark cause the clique to turn so pissy instead of just ignoring it or passing by with a "well spotted" or something similar? |

Paul you have been around long enough for most of us to know what your profession has been and I am surprised at the response you have gotten. LOL If you are out to describe the truth, leave elegance to the tailor. Frankly I enjoy the fact that you get straight to the point in most of our conversations and do not mince words. And yes there are times I do not agree with you, but I always enjoy hearing your point of view.
In regard to your comments about latitude, long ago I worked with a man who at one time worked with Stephen Hawking. He had one of those savant type of brains that could have deduced phase changes based on time, longitude, latitude. I do not have that type of brain... this is the best I could come up with as far as a few animations that some of you might find interesting in regard to hemisphere.
These animations show phase, libration and position angle of the axis of the Moon changes throughout one 24 hour day 5/5/2012, at hourly intervals in 24 frames.
Celestial north is up in the Northern Hemisphere animation, corresponding to the view from the northern hemisphere and it assumes a normal N/S northern hemisphere orientation.
To adjust for southern hemisphere views the animation was rotated 180 degrees, and you would substitute "north" for "south".
LOL... I guess I should try a half Moon for Paul at mid way between the two & 90 degree rotation. ;) I have no idea if it is accurate.

Hi Geoff, mine taken from Lower Hutt a couple of days later as you said early in the AM.
Suppose to be rain all weekend, I am off hunting again, see you Monday |
