Why only B&W?

Is that cheaper? Still cost 6000 euro (7950$)

Is this just a niche?

Dont see the benefit of having no colour option.

Quote:
The 18 MP image sensor of the M Monochrom is perfectly matched to the unique properties of the Leica M-System and the superior performance of Leica M-Lenses. As the sensor does not ‘see’ colors, every pixel records true luminance values – as a result, it delivers ‘true’ black-and-white images that are significantly sharper than comparable exposures from a camera with a color-sensitive sensor.

I guess its a quality thing

It's a niche for people with money to waste. Also seems like if you had all that cash laying around, you could just go medium or large format film for nice black and white resolution.

Got my Crown Graphic and Leica R4S ModP on my shelf next to me, with B&W film loaded and ready to go.

As for this new camera - the smoothness of the image will, no doubt, be beyond compare. It will be its own genre. But the digital cut-off from faint to B&W will be sharper than the film transition... if anybody has a clue what I am talking about. Digital blow-out is still digital blow-out (and no way of clawing it back in RAW, apparently)

Oh, yeah, and I didn't have $8,000 lying around. It was a total of $500 for the pair (I even got two lenses, flash with bulbs, 10 film holders and a case thrown in with the Graphic)
