There are a number of problems that could be mentioned.
1. We need a crop of a small portion from the image at 100% to evaluate focus, lack of noise, etc. See the sticky at the top of the Critique forum.
2. Composition has several problems: 1, Horizon is almost dead center, leaving the top half of the picture nothing but brown sky. 2. Worst problem: The railing (uninteresting) is blocking the view of the foreground buildings - a big no-no. The dark walkway taking up most of the lower right adds nothing of interest. 3. Buildings and spires at the sides are leaning in unacceptably.
3. Lighting issues. Blown highlights in some areas, lost detail in the dark spots.
Hope that's not too discouraging, but afraid a shot like this would never fly. |

I'm assuming this is a fish eye lens, the only way I can account for all the distortion. If so I'm not sure it was the best way to go with this type of shot. I think the distortion distracts rather than enhances this photo. |

Funny how I won a competition with this photo then isn't it. I'll get up to that roof again and try again sometime without a fisheye. |

competition and stock is like comparing grass to bananas.
it's a good photo, no one is questioning that, but whether it's stock quality is debatable. some fish eye photos will get accepted, but because this has too much 'distortion' then it probably wouldn't get approved. submit it if you feel confident tho. |

Totally agree, funny !
But unless it wasn´t the world press photo award or something similar I wouldn´t give too much on any competition.....
Who were the competitors ? How much entries have been there ? Who was in the jury ? Was it a social media voted thing ? What was the theme ? Etc pp.
For me the subject of this photo is this metal "knob" in the lower left of the railing... |

I won $200 for a photo I put in a county arts photo contest, but I couldn't get that same image accepted here.
They want a certain type of image here. |
