Finally, it seems just too square and tight. This is compressing the composition and you kind of loose the impact of the flowing water. |
Thx. Thats a quite a detailed observation, i wanted to take the shot from the middle of the river to give a nice feel. so struggled my way to a big rock in the middle of the river , and ther this big rock is bang in fornt of me. also, there were people washing clothes, taking bath etc. on the sides, so i have to crop them out. :-). This was taken long ago and i dont think i can get model release for those people. |
Sometimes a shot just does not work out. There have been many times when I have wanted to take a shot for stock but the conditions were not just right so I let it go by. As I said take a shot for remembrance if you want to but not all shots will fit into stock.

On any given trip or outing, I usually come back with a lot of shots. Most of them for remembrance, as Dave noted, or for personal sharing. Only a small percentage turn out to be geared for stock.

Cool, how high is the resolution on your original cropped photo? W x H ?

Look at it this way, Dave and I are working Pros. We did a 5100 mile trip last year 9 states I think. In all that time I took 23 Pictures. If you use your eyes, they will tell you if it's right. otherwise it's a snapshot. I don't take snapshots, My wife takes snapshots. we were at a mothers day thing last sunday, she asked if I would take a shot, I said no and handed her P&S to a fellow and asked him to do it. I just can't do that. Also our last Monument Valley workshop.... 3 Days, I took One picture. But lots of footage.A normal studio Model session is 3 Hours, I Plan and storyboard every setup, I usually will Take 1200/1500 shots in that 3 hours. my keeper rate is around 10%. My stock keeper Rate is probably 2%. Thats how picky I am.This is my Last Model, an actress. I was going for the 30's glamour Hollywood thing.

Wow! That sounds really scary. But, agree with you , after reading a lot of posts here i have stopped clicking away tons of snaps. Actually yesterday i travelled around in the METRO hoping to get a few photos and returned home with just one photo and still not sure is it worth posting here or not.

Thanks. I asked because I was worried your photos might be below 4mp. But they are not, and then the 100% crops are not 100% crops (if my calculations are correct) :) But this doesnt change anything for you, you already have your critique ;-)
I basically just wanted to know to feed my curiosity. lol

Nop, This was taken in Tamil Nadu, India, near one of the Tiger Reserves.
