Nikon user here - when I look at a raw .NEF file in Nikon's ViewNX 2 all is fine - colors contrast etc.

When I open the .NEF file in Adobe CS5 colors are flat and contrast lost. Can anyone help - I bet it's a so simple I am overlooking it!

I'm betting that the NEF software applies default settings that make the file look better immediately. In CS5, all the settings are probably set to zero but you adjust them and save a new default.

Could I ask you, where can I set the profile of my Nikon D90 camera in Photoshop CS5 ? I have the same problem as you. In ViewNX2 are colors, contrast etc.. allright, but NEF in Adobe Camera RAW has bad color, contrast etc...

When you open the NEF file into CS5 camera raw if you click on the camera icon (camera calibration) choose from the camera profile drop down menu (standard, portrait, vivid) whatever you prefer and save settings.
