I have been shooting with the Fujifilm X100 for several months. The fixed lens is a minor limitation but really forces you to a "back to basics" mentality. The IQ is beyond reproach.
Now, I have ordered the X-Pro 1 with interchangable lens capability. I expect to live without a DSLR from now on.
Do any of you have experience with either camera? |

I don't have it but the UK photo mags praise it and favorably compare it with Leica M9. Noise seems very good and the Fuji lenses have good reputation. |

And to add. Fuji is now owned by Nikon. |

I cannot find any evidence to support this. Some fuji cameras can use Nikon lenses but I think thats as far as it goes.

Okay. I think I know where this is coming from. Way back 10 or 12 years ago, Fuji marketed some DSLRs called S1 and S2. They were based upon, in fact used, Nikon N60/F60 and N80/F80 bodies, which Fuji then reworked into digital cameras. Naturally, the lens mount was Nikon and they took Nikon lenses.
That was a long time ago. I don't think either company owns the other. |

For the two of you waiting for my X-Pro1 experience, I've had it for several weeks now, along with the X100. Except for 12 v. 16 Mp and interchangable lenses there are many operating similarities. I can't say I prefer one over the other. The X100 is really handy as a go-anywhere instrument capable of outstanding IQ. Ditto the X-Pro1 with the advantage of lens choices.
I did intend to get more lenses for the XP1 but I'm getting along nicely with just the 35/2 (equivilant) and 50/1.4 (equivilant) lenses for now. For WA and tele I have rediscovered my feet!

All I can say is that, I miss the knobs and dials of my old film cameras. |
