Anyone else use this tripod head?
Just got it from ephotocraft and absolutely love it! Love being able to get the head near the composition i want, then fine tune with the knobs. Absolutely rock solid and no backlash in the gears. Good Job Manfrotto!

Never used that one but I am a big fan of Manfrotto products. All of my tripods and heads are made by them.

I also use all manfrotto tripods and heads. This looks very nice and it has a good weight capacity.

Scruggelgreen, check your PMs. I just found one I sent you a LONG time ago that you apparently never opened. Maybe it'll mean something to you, I don't know. I don't remember the conversation. LOL

I just started using manfrotto products and have a fluid head which makes video nice and smooth. for photography I have the little ball head with turn lever, nothing fancy like yours.
I'll look into it though.

I use a similar head, the Manfrotto 808RCA. Little heavier duty and with arms in place of knobs for easier gripping; but essentially the same. Works perfectly for my work. There are several people here who hate this type of head and passionately say a ball head is the only way to go. They are entitled to their opinions, of course, but like so many similar comparisons (Mac vs PC, Nikon vs Canon, etc.) it's really situational and a matter of personal preference. I've used the pan/tilt head for more than 40 years and am perfectly comfortable with it. I've tried ball heads and for whatever reason they just never felt right to me. I can see their advantage where you may need to quickly change positions, but I don't have that concern. That plus the pan/tilt head forces me to slow down just enough as to make me think more about the shot, rather than just grab and shoot.

There's a gimbel head out now that looks interesting. Jeff has been using it for quite a while and sings it praises. I've seen it in action, but have not had the opportunity to actually use one myself, so cannot comment on it from personal experience.

Yep, I checked adorama first, but, they always seem to be out of stock of the things I am looking for, hence why I bought from ephotocraft

I think it's around $114 at Adorama, but out of stock like so much else lately.

Here is a gimbal head that supports 30 lbs (13KG) and is relatively inexpensive.

Yet another slightly more expensive

I cannot attest to how good they are, as mine is a Wimberley Gimbal head and is $550

More info on them here
http://www.tripodhead.com/products/wimberley-main.cfm

There is a difference between the quick release bases on Wimberley and copies thereof, in that they have two pins stop a lens/camera combination from sliding off the head, even when the attachment screw become loosened, vaiation of the Arca-Swiss clamp.
