You did it again. You boxed her in with no where to go or look. and ya really need a hair light behind her, Otherwise shes a floating head on black.now she can be looking at a product or idea. You need to open it up. see how much more pleasing this is? If she was a cracked face 90 Year old woman, then you can come in. Shes not. A portrait MUST breathe.

A hair light is very important to give separation regardless of the mood you are trying to do. Shes to young for a pure emotional shot.Otherwise what you end up with is a police Line up/Passport static shot.Hang in there , keep shooting.There are rules in Portraiture, Learn them ....Then break all of them.And you can come back to one light for a reason.Notice how her arm Takes your eye Out of the Picture?Theres a reason.

She drove all the way to LA for me to shoot her and her daughter. great series. My Last 3. Her daughter was a natural Ham.

Then of course her sidekick Sophie, we had a great time when they came up to Nor Cal so they could learn a little about landscape photography.
My fave shot I have of her is this tight shot of her eyes
