I was wondering what web hosts people on Shutterstock were using. I am thinking about creating a personal photography site and have been looking around. My problem is I can't settle on anyone, many of them are comparable but I feel like I wont know the true difference until I have an account (and need customer support etc.)

Is there any particular (reasonably priced) web host people have had success with?

Depends on how many megabytes of space you require and what platform you need. I am a reseller and I can give you (since we are members of SS) a free 1 month trial on Windows platform without obligations. You can mail me if you want more details by visiting my site http://www.mauritiusphotos.com

Else I guess your ISP may be providing you with free web space. What you need to do is to buy a dot com + mask the domain name and point it to that. Its free at least in this part of the world (you pay only for your domain name)

I use supanames.com. The prices vary but you get a very good service and practically zero down time. I have no complaints at all, they respond to emails quickly and give you a decent amount of webs pace plus lots of other stuff like ready to use scripts, email accounts etc. etc.

I know most probbaly give this as well but I wouldn't go anywhere else now.

I'd post my referrer link to them but can't be bothered doing the copying and pasting so I'll just give you the address, just come back from a mornings photography and I'm tired

The best two hosting companies from my experience and from what I have heard from other fellow web designers are:
1&1: http://www.oneandone.co.uk
and the one i use http://www.ipowerweb.com
I have got the 2gb package and its very complete with many tools and add ons, your first domain name is free, then $9 for registering new domains to your webspace.

Hope it helps

Our ISP only sells full and half racks - and you have to fill in your own machines...

The best place I have found is where mine is hosted. They have the best prices, service and packages. I have been with them a long time and I have never had any problems. Take a look at http://www.area51domains.com
The hosting has everything you could ever need and starts at only $3.95 per month and domain names are only $7.95 per year.

I have had many websites with a few different hosting providers,
all the hosting providers gave terrible customer service and very overpriced domains and ssls etc.
I finally found a web provider that is excellent on all the above and have been reffering so many friends to them that i decided to become a reseller for them and so here is my shameless self promo.

I recommend www.quarkhost.com the best on the web

I haven't read all the posts here - I just wanted throw in my 2 cents.
I am with www.startlogic.com (for my clients) and they offer 2 GB of Space with I think 60 GB monthly bandwidth including unlimited email accounts and PHP, SQL, CGI etc etc. Whenever there was an issue (not many) their customer support is excellent! They received awards for their great customer service.

I think it's worth a look!
