I am a travel photographer and use Aperture 3.0 to store, manage and edit my images. And would like to start contributing to SS. And before that, post a few pics on the forum for critique.

There are a few queries in my mind right now:

1. What do you mean by 'crop your image to longer side being 500 pixels?' How does one do that in Aperture? Step by step instructions would be helpful. (I'd like to avoid Photoshop as much as possible).

2. All my images are what I'd like to call 'Travel' photos. Of destinations, monuments, famous places etc. Under what category would these fall? (you can view my pics at www.bhavenjani.photoshelter.com)

3. How do I track all posts put up by me here under various threads etc. I mean, I put up a few similar queries here several months ago, but have no idea how to track them for responses. Is there a place where one can view all posts/comments put up by themselves (other than enabling 'Notify me when a reply is posted).

Thanks in Advance

For posting your shot here in the forum just resize your image to no longer than 500 pixels on the longest side so they will show up properly. Just make sure you save it under a new name to retain the original.

When it comes to the 100% crop I do not use Aperture but the process is probably about the same. Take your shot, zoom in to 100% then crop out the section and save it under a new name. I am sure someone who uses aperture will be able to give you better instructions if what I gave is wrong.

To the category you would give them they would either be Parks/Outdoors, Nature or Animals depending on what is the main object of the shot.

As to following the posts you have made all you need do is go to your profile section in the forums. You will find the link at the top of the forum page where it says Welcome (and your mane). Once at the profile page scroll down and make sure that you have the section marked yes for being notified of when a thread you made a post on is changed. You will then receive an email with the link to the thread.

I hope this helps.

Monuments and such probably would fall under "buildings/landmarks."

Thanks for your response. But my query is 'How does one determine the size of the crop is 500 pixels? Where is that indicated? Aperture allows cropping through visual selection (e.g. I crop around a window of an image of a house, I have no idea whether the crop is of 1, 10 or 100 pixel). I do understand viewing an image at 100% size:)

I realize that subscribing to threads through emails is definitely an option, but its a very poor way to do so. I delete all mails after viewing a thread once. Suppose a month later I want to revisit the thread, how does one do it. Most other site forums allow a member to view all their past postings which seems to be missing here big time.

Well, I don´t know aperture, but I know what I would do if I would be in need of such information.

That said: if it isn´t too much of a trouble for you I would suggest you google how you crop to 500px with a given software, in this case with aperture

Why avoid Photoshop? at the very least Photoshop Elements or Lightroom. Im sure it has Image/Image size.Or read the manual.
