I am a contributor of a couple other microstock companies and decided to give shutterstock a try, however I have been rejected twice. The first time, only 2 images were approved, and the second time, five were approved. I am going to post a few new ones for some critique, I will also post a few that were accepted so you have an idea of what I do. Thanks!

Here are three that were approved

I don´t know, how do you know they have been approved ?

Maybe they just stop looking at the rest if they have sorted out more than 3 ?

Anyhow and anyway, all the 6 have composition issues for my taste, the 2 dog ones and the poppybud (?) are cropped to close, the onion one has problems with the green strokes above etc.

Also the CV is not the highest, if not LCV

They are a bit too soft, that said, the onion is the sharpest of the 3 and the poppybud and xmastree have issues with DOF

If I were you, I would not submit the first 3 again as there is no guarantee they will get accepted (again) next time, and if they were, you have been lucky, imho

And to be honest, in this batch I don´t see one that I would suggest to put into the first 10, wait for more opinions on that

for the next ones think about composition, watch out distracting stuff as in the onion shot (top and foreground), think more stock wise when choosing your subject and you can make it...technically you are not the worst I have seen here so far

Greetings Emily, & welcome aboard.

I'm still fairly new to this myself, being in only since March.

I really like the car shot--can totally understand why it was accepted. The dogs are also well done. I'm a little surprised they worked out for the first ten, but if something works, use it.

My gut reaction to the onion is that it would be best saved to submit when you're already in--but I'd have said the same about the dog pix. Also, there's distracting elements in both the fore & backgrounds. If you can reshoot with them removed you'll have a stronger image.

The poppy bud is not in sufficient focus, but a reshoot ought to produce a salable image.

Not sure about the pine leaves. I like the shoot, composition, etc. It shows skill with macro photography. Not sure about focus, however. Is that really a 100% sample? If so then I think focus is okay. Others might say no, especially because the dof is bare microns in width.

This is one I'd try to reshoot adding more dof just to be certain. If I couldn't reshoot, I'd submit, but not necessarily in the first ten (though I think it's a good idea to include some macro shots).

I do like your work & I look forward to seeing more of it both for the sake of inspiration & simply stealing ideas...;-)

Re approval, I've been told by longtimers here that if the images have no comment on them when returned then they would have been otherwise approved.

It's also been recommended, however, that said images not be recycled into another first-ten submission simply because there's an expectation that in the one month's hiatus a potential contributor ought to be able to come with with ten fresh images.

So they say...

Any critiques for these to possibly include in my 10 image submission would be appreciated.

The lighting is hard on the Dog and the BG kills it and the cat you got down to the cat's level but a solid color sheet or whatever would do better then the one it is on and the fat could work but where is the crop.

The background is fantastic, gives the ultimate sense of freedom with the dog running up on the hill. Just a little fixable problem with the head just peaking over the hillside.

Your dog has two backs.

I know, but at least show off your skills ;-) Even a quick fix can look good.

i would say that dogs sometimes just behave as ducks and flowers....

in other words: forget about them for first 10 unless spectacular, and while I think about, cats are not different

oh, and I don´t get the idea about the "fats" one...but that might be just a cultural/language problem and don´t has to bother you if it otherwise is a clear concept for others here
