Could someone give me some directions on shooting RAW ans saving images? I hate to admit it, but I have not done much in RAW and really would like to change that.
Thanks!

PM me, I can give the whole story, in fact if you do SKYPE (it is free), I can walk you through the whole process. I am jeffrey.banke on skype.

Simplistically, it is a breeze, set your camera to capture RAW data, transfer it to your computer by whatever means you are comfortable with (I use BRIDGE), open images from Bridge into ACR (Adobe Camera RAW), make adjustments, set the color space, 8 or 16 bit, etc., either open into Photoshop as a PSD & or JPG.
The methodology I use is slightly different, once done with the adjustments in ACR, if have no reason to open in PS, I simply hit "done", then from Bridge select a group of images that I have just processed in ACR, and do a batch process, by selecting "Tools", "Photoshop", "Image Processor", making JPG's out of all of them.

Something I discovered recently (should have known about it before, but better late than never) - when opening an image from ACR into Photoshop for more processing, shift-click the Open Image button to change it to Open Object. It will open as a smart object, which means you can easily get back to ACR if you find you'd like to do something differently or make a few more changes without updating the RAW file.

Yes, smart objects are particularly useful when doing composites.
