The Wood Hollow forest wildfire started about a mile south of my home. It rapidly grew to over 40,000 acres destroyed. Now at least one body has been found. Dozens of homes have been destroyed. It started last Saturday and was under control this morning. About two hours ago two areas flared with 30 mph winds. Two towns are now under mandatory evacuation.
I have some footage here at SS with another couple dozen awaiting review. ABC News is using my photos on their news both TV and internet (made a good sale to them). Hoping to sell some footage of it here.

Wow heavy flames. Great stock opportunity but lets all hope for a quick end to these fires, they are destroying so much.
Feel for the victims. |

Hey Jake,
Yup we finally got some rain down here too. The first rain in 1 1/2 months, it seems longer than that. Out fire is out but the one to the east of us above Fairview is still raging. Last count there was 8 forest / wild fires out of control here in Utah. The rain was not near enough to really help and it stopped far to quickly.
Best

We got a good hard rain yesterday over the burn scar. The tremendous burn soot and mud flash flood was massive. It covered the back three acres of our field but a good friend south of us has their entire basement and part of the main floor of their home filled with the slimy black mud. Total loss of their home. And of course since it was not in a flood plain they had no flood insurance and therefore no coverage. So sad. |

That is awful! There should be some way they could tie this to the fire and get coverage that way. Dang, they'd have been better off to have the house burn to the ground... Then again, this way they we able to save some things...but. Oh, what a tragedy.
Do you think what covered the back part of your field might help the field in the long run. They say the ash after a fire helps replenish the viability of the soils. |
