Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone knows what the video compression is like on the D800? I have a D7000 and while I love the camera the video is quite heavily compressed, and so it would be nice to have a HQ setting even if it shortened the recording time. Is this an option on the D800, or is it the same as the D7000? Thanks.

Standard HD video is 1920x1080, HUGELY compressed from the number of pixels available.

OK thanks, but does anyone know what the actual compression bitrate is? The website does not mention this. The D7000 is about 20mbits, I think I heard somewhere that the D800 is 24mbits. Can anyone confirm? Or has anyone seen a difference between the D7000 and D800 in terms of quality? Thanks.

D 800 video compression = H.264/MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding
Movie File Format = MOV
Movie
HD 1,920x1,080 / 30 fps
HD 1,920x1,080 / 24 fps
HD 1,280x720 / 30 fps
HD 1,280x720 / 24 fps
HD 1,280x720 / 60 fps

D7000
Movie
HD 1,920x1,080 / 24 fps
HD 1,280x720 / 30 fps
HD 1,280x720 / 24 fps
VGA 640x424 / 30 fps

They seem not have all the information on the Nikon site, leaving out the format of the movie and the style of compression for the 7000, so I don't think you are going to have any luck finding out.
However doing the math 1920x1080 is the same size Mb file not matter what

D800 has uncompressed Output via HDMI.I had the D7000 for a month or so. Video was nice But a little funky with WB Flicker. The d800 is full broadcast ready. spectacular video. The Marshall monitor I sold ya is perfect for it.
