up to now I've been converting my Raw files (Nikon D5100) to Tiffs with the Nikon software, then processing in Lightroom 4 (&PS). It seems however that the Tif conversion step is not really necessary since Adobe Cam Raw 7 does a much better job than earlier versions
Any thoughts on this ??
it's making my workflow simpler and no huge Tiff files
thanks

I'm not a Nikon shooter, so can't really comment on the qualities of Nikon vs Adobe conversion. I imagine that the differences are really in the eye of the beholder and if it works for you and simplifies your workflow, that's good.
There is no doubt that the ACR/Lightroom conversion has improved with the 2012 process release. |

I think that Capture NX2 is still the best [read the most neutral] converter the NEF files into jpg/tiff. Then, of course, I also use PS/LR to do the final touches, and yes, Capture is way slower than ACR, but I still prefer it. |

To me, NX2 is the best sharpen tool around. |
