This may have been asked a zillion times. Have googled and read through a lot. But still i am confused.

So, wanted to confirm with the most trusted forum i have ever been.

Basically my need is not specific to stock, even though i will use it for stock occassionaly. Mostly landscapes & the concrete jungle of Dubai.

Thx for ur suggestions
ssk.

The thing is that you don't buy a camera, you buy a brand and a system and once you made a choice, you are stuck with it. Don't look at the camera, look at the lenses. Your lenses will last a lot longer than your camera. See what lenses of each manufacturer you like best now and in the future and base you decision on that.

friend(s) around you with the most lens use which brand ? Go buy that brand so you can explore all his/her lens before you buy better lens for yourself.

Hey Guys

Thx for the comments

Regarding friends with similar lenses, i am no where near a person with similar intrest, i am in the finance field and all my friends have the best the mega zoom point and shoot. The nearest i get to photography is this forum.

Yes, i understand that i am buying into a system, earlier i was swayed into canon because of the built in auto focus motor, but after reading about the D5100 more number of cross focus points i am bit confused.

As i said, i know canon & nikon both are good brands, but some practical issues which u experts might have faced will help me to decide on what to buy.

Then what about the new Canon 650D? It finally got a more complex AF system, the one from the bigger 60D and 7D. There are many more new bells and whistles, read into it. For some, the display might be a problem. Not only is it movable (which I'd love for video work), it now also features some touch functions which I don't care for at all: anything short of a good smartphone screen is too Slow for my taste. Need to check it out... I just hope there's no Trend to repelace hardware buttons on dslrs.

A big part of the descision is also personal taste: grab it, touch it, turn it on and try to understand it without the manual. In this respect, Canon is much closer to my understanding of menus and UI logic, so Canon it HAD to be (550D/T2i in my case).

Best regards,

Christian
