Last few days images which use to be in Popular category had moved to Relevant
I found in the Popular category images which have no downloads.
It causes ultimately low sales, customers don't see in Popular category my best images, and go away.
Please, fix this problem! |

Yes I've noticed something not quite right as well, not sure what it was, but there are a lot of my older less popular images in the initial pages of my "Popular Pages"....somethings going on, is this a glitch in the system, or has SS changed something?? |

In my portfolio, it seems that "popular" view shows only the 2 best ones and then older pics, and "relevant" shows pictures sorted by number of sales.
No more "popular" sort based on "sales and age" (new ones with already a few sales among old ones with big sales). SS has changed something, yes. But, is it really intentional ?
I join my voice to say : Please, fix the problem!.
Thank you |

The ony way we have to solve this is to contact the support. I've already done it.
If we don't let them know about the problem they'll never gonna fix it..
So just write... |

Well I think that the corporate offices at Shutterstock should try to communicate with contributors about this new problem, or do something about it. You can make changes in the site, that's fine, but you can't completely turn things upside down. For some contributors this means a sudden stop in sales. I am personally considering to stop my contribution efforts. It would be sad, I really like Shutterstock. |

Palying devil's advocate and putting on my corporate head for a minute....if SS changed something and 20% of contributors saw sales drop but the other 80% saw sales maintained or increased, if you were SS would you change it back or keep it as is to continue to improve sales? |

The search results in "Popular" are based on one of Shutterstock's most complicated algorithms. This algorithm takes many different variables into account, including, but not limited to, the total number of downloads. If an image has more downloads than others it does not always mean it will be placed higher in "Popular". It is also very normal for images to move up and down "Popular" regardless of the number of times that image has been downloaded.
We are focused on making sure that customers are satisfied with their search results, that they can find the content that they are looking for every single time they visit our site. We understand the importance of relevant/accurate search results and constantly monitor, test and review our search engine. Rest assured that we will continue to review it and make corrections whenever we have an indication that there is an issue.

It makes sense but we don't have those numbers. also it would be nice to share some of the logic with the contributors. If some people make a living out of it, you can't just cut off their income abruptly like this. |

July has ended pretty bad and so seems to be the beginning of August. As many of the illustrators here, I'm trying to make a living from my drawings, and it's extremely frustrating when sales are going down not due to recession or a general trend, but to some (?!) experiments.
I know Shutterstock wants happy clients, what about happy contributors?
I wrote to support, but nobody seems to care - I would like to know at least if it's temporary or should I expect worst.
I hope at least some of you guys are doing well... me, I'm unhappy. |

No, I feel this "relevancy" search is only relevant to how much faulty keywordings that has been done, i.e. spamming. I did some searches within my own fields and the results were very, very poor.
I would have thought in this day and age the old fashioned "relevancy" searck was totally forgotten? I mean this is a search that even was used by the old film-agencies. It didnt work then and it wont work now, considering we have billions of files floating around.
best. |
