The problem is that unless you are very skilled at coming up with very good keywords to help distinguish your shots from the others it will be difficult for buyers to find yours among the rest.
Keywords are a very important part of stock work because you can have the best shot in the world but if you do not have good keywords it will rarely sell.
The next question comes up which is what are you going to do after the smoke images? You need to be able to come up with other shots that have good commercial value. Just having some shots of smoke is not going to cut it in the long run. |

Completely Agree with you. I am just trying different techniques at the moment to understand light and focus and stuff as I recently bought few flash. Once I am confident I will start taking concept images. I have got few ideas in my mind. Also, I love landscape photography so can do something in that too.
I will reserve this image for later once I am in.
Thanks everyone for your valuable comments. |

I don't agree. The important keyword is "smoke". Everything else is pretty much irrelevant. Buyers won't search for "swirling blue smoke black background", so success will depend on how your image does in the search. If it isn't in the first couple of pages of a search on "smoke" then it won't fly. |

That is why I say more specific keywords are needed to pull it up. And I think that someone looking for a specific image of blue swirling smoke would use those keywords and not just smoke. They want to reduce the number of results to aid in their search.
When it places is up to how popular it becomes. It will drop with a new search as time goes on and new images are added to the database. If it does not do well then it will drop in popular as well. To do well it needs to be found first and that is where more specific keywords are needed to bring it to the forefront. |
