In my education to learn AI CS3 I'm trying to convert some of my pds files from Photoshop 7.0 to vector files in Illustrator CS3.
Some of my psd files are converting fine to eps vector files in AI but not all are converting right. I can tell when I enlarge them to 200+% All are illustrations, all have layers but the ones that are doing well are the ones where I use only custom shapes. Is there something I'm doing wrong or in the wrong order?
Thank you for your help,

What do you have in the illustrations that are not 'custom shapes' and are not converting correctly?
Also, how do you know that some of the files are not converting correctly, what specifically is wrong with them? |

Thank you for asking, rbsbella,
When I enlarge a converted psd file made in photoshop to make a vector by eps in illustrator to over 100% I can see the pixels.
The times, which is where I could be going wrong, that this happens is when I have shadows, glows, or beveling to make it more 3d. Maybe this is where I'm going wrong. I read that I need to use the blend mode in illustrator to do shadows or the lines are clean and I get pixels. I can change that.
I was able to convert one file to a vector that had no shadows - it was all flat. Then, last night I created my first illustration in illustrator (yeah!) Even though it was real basic, like the one I converted successfully, both have clean lines at 1600%.
So, when I use my brushes or effects in ps, the lines aren't clean on the conversion to a vector eps. Is this maybe my problem?
Thank you so much for your help. Diana |

Are you copying and pasting between Photoshop and Illustrator? Or are you opening psd files in Illustrator that already have 'effects' on them?
It sounds like you might have pixels somehow in your psd artwork. Vector shapes are scalable because they are not pixelated.
You could try importing your illustrated shapes without shadows, etc. into Illustrator from Photoshop, if they are smart objects. Then apply effects in Illustrator. But...
The shadow effects that you apply in Illustrator will be pixelated on your screen. There is no way around that. You can make them instantly look better, however, by going to Effect> Document Raster Effects Settings and changing the resolution to a higher setting. |
