I know I am a relative newbie here, but if I were to recommend just one site for contributors, it would be Shutterstock. After getting accepted, I joined three other well know sites.
Since joining SS, I have had daily downloads. My daughter, who joined a week or so after me, has also had daily downloads. In fact, her ratio of downloads compared to her gallery is much higher than mine. (she only has 13 images so far, yet one day had 8 downloads.)
Meanwhile, on those other sites, not a single download. Had I gone there first, imagine I would be very discouraged!
It is also very interesting to see how images that get accepted in one place, will get rejected at other sites. When I get rejected for content on one site, yet accepted on another, that is very understandable. Each has its own needs and clients.
And when one gets accepted on one site, and rejected on another for technical problems (such as lighting or focus issues)I’m not really offended at the reject, but I do tend to wonder if the inspector who let one of my shots slip in (that was rejected elsewhere), was on his or her toes!
:-)
I have to say the most fun was getting my 80 year (in two months) mom to play model for me. This is a woman who normally never lets anyone just snap a picture of her. But she really got into it. In fact, my husband couldn’t believe that she cheerfully agreed to be photographed. Yesterday three of her pictures were downloaded. She was very excited...and ready to get her picture taken again! |

Congratulations on getting accepted! I think you will find that Shutterstock is among the elite of stock sites.
Keep in mind that all stock sites have different rules about what they accept and what they reject and that the reviewers are human and do from time to time make mistakes. I doubt if the time will come that all reviewers on all sites will see the same thing 100% of the time. That is why I don't try to figure out why one site will accept a shot while another will reject it. Just submit good quality sellable images and things will proceed nicely for you. Don't over analyze things or you will end up nuts like many of us LOL
Good luck and continued success to you. |

I've noticed, Dave, that whenever people are having problems or put up posts like this one then you're nearly always there (over 4000 to date - wow!) with lots of encouragement. That's great but how do you find the time and what makes you want to write these 6 to 8 posts a day? |

As far as finding the time I would say that it all comes time to organizing my time. Since I retired I am able to work from home for the most part (I have a job as a national training director for a public safety software company). So, in between my photography and the business I have with Laurin (Rinder99), writing and my other job I make sure I check the forums about 10 times a day.
It really doesn't take that much time actually. It only takes me about 20 minutes to run through the forums and write my answers.
Why do I do it? That's simple, I like to help. I know how confusing it can be for someone to come to a new venture, not know anyone and are unsure of themselves so a kind word and some direction can do alot to make those people feel more comfortable. I think it is the same for the main group of us that do help. People like Laurin, Perry, Jens, Wally, Kenny, Russ (sorry if I forgot anyone) just enjoy giving a helping hand when we can.
We do get somewhat aggravated when someone asks a question that has been asked and answered a gazillion times before and doesn't take the time to read the FAQ or search the forums but that is all part of what we do. So, all you new folks out there check first, you will be surprised how many of your questions will be answered by simply looking for them.
So, that's it in a nushell. I enjoy doing it so I find the time to do it. |

Tell your mother that we love her pictures, and that she will just have to keep posing! Maybe she'll be used on a big billboard or magazine ad somewhere - then she'll be famous! |
