If we upload footage with audio, should we also submit a version without audio? |

I wouldn't bother submitting videos with audio at all, unless the audio is somehow really relevant to the video. Most editors don't use the stock audio in the first place and will probably delete the track anyway. |

Great, thanks! But on the rare occasion when we do upload one with sound, should we also upload one without? |

I wouldn't bother to upload two seperate ones, editors can get rid of the audio track very easily if they don't need it. |

Exactly.
However, good sound professionally recorded with close to no ambient noise, will make your footage more valueable. Noone needs wind noise on a windy scene. But a rare bird singing sells better with pro sound recording. |

If it´s water SOUND it´s good and you should leave it in. If it´s NOISE you should remove it.
Actually I came to the conclusion to pay more attention to the audio than I did so far. Motion / time change and audio are the two very things that distinguish a video from a still, thus, a clip without sound is only half a clip, at least with respect to clips where you would expect an audio (e.g. a train passing by).
So, I remove the sound
-if copyright problems could occur (especially music and clearly identifiable voices without having a model release)
-if it´s unrelated to the clip or even "destroying" it (eg. I got more traffic noise from a nearby street than splash sound of the fountain I filmed)
-if it has not been recorded properly: (wind) noise, over/undermodulation...
I keep the sound
-if it´s related to the clip. My cam is capable of recording clear stereo audio with little camera noise which might not be sufficient for a DVD project but for a clip that is only shown for some seconds on TV I think the quality is good enough (The best way to reduce noise is to record the audio close to the source at the highest possible level without distorsion).
I use an external microphone when I have the chance to record a clip with good audio.
I try to record good general atmospheres for let´s say a minute or even longer and build up my own little sound pool so that the next time a forest scene gets disturbed by the nice sound of a power saw I can replace the audio by my own alternative.
Greetings,

Footage may (and should) be submitted with audio, provided that the audio does not contain any form of music (this includes everything from marching bands to Christina Aguilera) or copyrighted sound material. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
Thanks,
