I think after sorting everything out in my head and on paper, I feel like this - yesterday, I submitted to SS for .30 and was "happy enough" with it to put in the work. Why would I stop at .33? Add in the fact that I'll be making .36 in a couple months and my raise will be 20%. Honestly, that satisfies me for now.

^ That being said, I still feel SS did not handle this well. I think THAT is the bulk of the original issue people have/had.

(Lower expectations, higher delivery...better results. Can this really be argued?)

Come on everyone, sing along!

Geesh, Tony let it go. Newbies are a fact of life around here and we all accept that. You seem to be well on your way to becoming a regular submitter who will move up in the ranks quickly. Why so damn obstinate about all this?

Just focus on what really matters and graduate from newbie to contributing member of the community. FNC has a valid point. He may not be the gentlest guy around but he does have a point. With his point taken one would also have to take the point that there are exceptions to every rule and many exceptional submitters have developed out of the scenario that FNC details. Unfortunately for every one that has turn out great there are always 10 or more that really contribute nothing to the business. Ones who whine and complain that they have been cheated out of something they have not even made an effort to earn yet and NO TONY, I am not talking about you. I suspect you will see your raise in very early June if not before.

Heh Photoshow, I was just adding a little bit of light hearted humour into the thread, I have no worries about reaching the raise and am quite happy about what i'll earn from it in the future. And yes I do agree there's probably a high percentage of newbies that don't take this business serious enough but there's an old saying....
Don't tar everyone with the same brush!

I love your work by the way and you inspire me to be a better submitter in the future.

Now everyone let's sing up

Let's all bash a newb..........(only joking.......seriously.........honestly..........I really was)

The date of the announcement brings to mind the saying: "Unlucky for some, 13"

After reading all of these post I have to say that all this uproar reminds me a bit of Chicken Little Screaming That The Sky Is Falling.

I guess the moral of the story for me would be "I Don't Believe Everything I Read"

So far as I can see the sky is not falling anytime soon, however for those that really do think the sky is falling maybe we should diversify (always wise) or follow the example of a few posters here and find new and creative ways to make money from microstock!

For those of you not familiar with the fable I found this old youtube video cartoon version with a wily fox entertaining. Sans the first and last frame that someone else added after the fact.

Thank you SS I am happy to receive a raise in a challenging economy! ;) Of course a larger raise would always be welcome.

What can I say THANK YOU SS! I'd rather get EURO cents instead of USD cents.
Anyway this is better than nothing.

I don't understand all the angry posts here...

We got a 10%, 20% or 27% raise. How often do you get a 10% raise? In your interest rates, your salary?

3 Cents doesn't sound much but 30 Cents isn't much in the first place!

I'm happy with the raise, at least some agency is giving more to its contributors. I know places where you suddenly get less money...

Lets look at a hypothetical situation.

If SS has a hypothetical million buyers
and IS has another hypothetical million buyers

and we submitters have more or less all the same images with both agencies

Then should SS make a BOLD move and take 10% of the buyers away from IS we may see our IS earnings drop and our SS earnings increase but in the end the change to our total earnings will be negligible because it is still the SAME 2 million buyers. Our earnings have simply been rearranged.

The only bottom line affected is the bottom line of the agencies. .

In my case (and I'm sure many others), other sites result in more earnings per DL versus SS. Thus technically if SS takes buyers away from other sites that would be buying my photos, I would lose money.

Of course SS is integral based on volume, but the fact is if someone is going to DL my photo, I'd rather they DL it on another site.

Of course if a new buyer to SS buys 3 or 4 pictures because it is subscription based rather than per photo, than that would offset this effect. Just not sure how much this happens though.

What you are missing is that income from SS is relative to income at similar places...

Thanks for the reply Yuri. I understand your position much better as I'm sure many others now do.

geez prairie mike, normally i think you're the greatest - but today - well - that's one snarky comment.

Absolutely not intended as "snarky". Apologize if it came across that way.

I asked the highly successful Yuri to help me understand why a 30% raise (combined 27% DL + 40% EL) was "unpleasant" as he called it. He graciously and thoughtfully replied without any of the "less than dignified" attitudes of others. I understood more of his position and simply wanted to briefly recognize that. "Briefly", because I had already launched a couple of longer dissertations here and didn't need another lengthy one.

I learned a lot from Yuri's post. Some here were waiting to see whether he was going to flamboyantly exit the scene in a mad fit and give the masses a poster child to crow about in their virtual stampede on SS headquarters. He did not. He is a class act.

So... here this morning I was startled to find that someone (perhaps others?) considered it "snarky. Very much to the contrary.
