Leveraged Shutterstock on the Red Carpet recently to obtain media access to the inaugural Formula Drift Singapore 2008 event held on the 27 Apr. It was a different experience to cover an event as media. The media pass gets you to go to areas not accessible to the ticket-paying public, and to see the action from a different perspective, eg to be in the grid itself during the tandem runs and to photograph the drivers waiting their turns in the paddocks. Below are some of the editorial pictures taken at the event. Next up, F1!

I too have participated and found it to be a great program.
Shameless pimping of Olympic Whitewater trials below.
Full VIP media access - I was so close I had to keep wiping water off my glass!!
I have a few more events lined up and can't wait!!
(professional rodeo, a couple of nascar events and concerts)
Even though these images are editorial, they are quite steady sellers.
She sells well - she's quite pretty - even more so in person :-)
Shoot shoot shoot!!

By the number of posts here it seems not many use this program -- folks, you should!
I just shot an Ozomatli concert, accredited through the Shutterstock Red Carpet program. This was my first time participating, and it was a perfect experience (thanks, Anthony!). I was allowed access anywhere and could stay the entire time (usually photographers can shoot during first 3 songs only). I had a great time!

Great shots!
And great points of view with side-stage views.
A little different than the standard barricade and the front of the stage shots.
Nice not being rushed by the standard 3 song rule!

No, I decided to avoid the 600 - just too big, too soon etc.
I need to get a few of these under my belt before I jump into something that big.
So maybe next year.
I'm shooting SpeedStreets this Thurs, Fri, Sat - really looking forward to that.

I just finished shooting 3 days of Food Lion Speed Streets in Charlotte NC courtesy of the Red Carpet program.
It's a large event with numerous bands and NASCAR driver appearances tied to the Coca Cola 600 race.
All the press headache was taken care of by the Red Carpet.
I simply went to the show trailer, signed in (with the assitance of some very lovely young ladies), put my pass around my neck and that was it.
As there were three stages (placed a loooong distance from eachother) and numerous driver appearances - I pretty much kept hopping for 3 days from noon until midnight. MY LEGS ARE TIRED!!!
The people at the event were great.
I was welcomed where ever I went with no issues at all. If there were any strange looks it was because they didn't see the badge. Show them the badge and welcomed.
Although I used to shoot as a full time pro, it has been a number of years. It sure was a blast to chat and hang around with other photographers again.
It took Thursday night to try to recall the rapid fire chaos of shooting live acts.
Friday was a dramtic improvement.
I think by Saturday it all came back to me.
For those of you that haven't tried the Red Carpet...what's wrong with you????
It's a great opportunity to shoot.
Aside from the shooting, I made some new friends, re-made some old friends and made some very handy business contacts.
I have not yet gone through all the images, but here is some shameless pimping of some :-)

Hello submitters:
Submitter vclements clearly described the advantage of Shutterstock's Red Carpet program in his recent post:
"All the press headache was taken care of by the Red Carpet. I simply went to the show trailer, signed in (with the assistance of some very lovely young ladies), put my pass around my neck and that was it."
This is exactly how the Red Carpet program is supposed to work. Shutterstock coordinates the access while you take care of shooting the images!
We are not always successful with event access requests, but the important thing is that we here at Shutterstock try our best to coordinate the access that you are interested in - worldwide.
So, What are you waiting for? Submit your Red Carpet requests today!
Sincerely,
Anthony Correia

Maybe the request could be done through a form that is accessible somewhere on the page, instead of all the stuff with the PDF document
What do you think, Anthony?

Hello lilcrazyfuzzy,
Yes, we are working on the current PDF interface, to make it easier for all of our interested submitters to submit Red Carpet requests to us. However, the current interface should not deter you or anyone else from applying though... Others have tried it... with success!

hello,
iam going to try the red carpet program to photograph a music summer festival here in portugal, with a lot of internacional music bands, but i have a question about the image quality, when i shoot concerts i normally used hight iso (800,1600 or even 3200) so a lot of pictures will be rejected! correct?

I just finished shooting a similar event through the Red Carpet. The night performances were shot at 3200.
As a higher asa is required, I think there is some leeway with noise as it is simply the nature of the beast.
To help reduce noise, try to get the exposure dead on (use a small center weighted pattern or even spot metering).
In PS, increase the contrast to further darken the background to reduce noise.
I used NN on some ugly noise. USE IT SPARINGLY - otherwise faces look like plastic.
In some cases I created an additional layer to remove some of the noise reduction from the areas of critical focus, while cleaning up the noise elsewhere.
Chevelle had a VERY dark and moody show.
They were tough!!
While Travis Tritt has great lighting - piece of cake

Last week i shot my first concert thru the Red Carpet program. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Alpharetta Ga (near Atlanta). It was pouring down rain, but the people at the show were very helpful and organized. Thanks to Anthony for all he did. He notified me by email 2 days before the concert. Most of the time I never knew if I had been approved until the afternoon of the show. The email with all of the info made everything go very smooth. It was the best experience of getting in I have every had. Other times it has just been a hassle, but with the Red Carpet program, it was great. I got some great shots of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. I can't wait for the next one.[img][/img]
