Hi there,

I've never been able to upload via FTP since I registered and was approved three days ago. I am using the following settings in Filezilla:

host: ftp.shutterstock.com
login: my email associated with my account and my password (thrice checked, there are no spelling errors)
port: 21

It still keeps giving me "login incorrect" even though I am doing everything by the book as told on the site. Any ideas? Capslock is off, I can login fine into the site itself with said credentials.

I am having the exact same problem (except I am using Cyberduck). I e-mailed Shutterstock but have not yet received a response.

We're not aware of any problems here that would cause this, but we'll keep an eye out.

A firewall can cause this problem. You could start by turning off your windows firewall and any other software firewalls you might have. You should also try uploading with http or the browser plugin and see how that works.

The thing that caught me out when I tried to use FTP the first time was that when I set up the account I entered the password in a mixture of upper and lower case.

When you log on to the main site it does not check whether the password is entered in upper and lower case characters, whereas the FTP server does check the case. This isn't mentioned in the FAQ.

So for example you might have used the name of one of your cats as a password and entered it with a capital letter out of habit - Fluffball.

Paul.

I have turned my firewall off completely and it still doesn't work. It isn't such a big deal for photo's because there are other methods, but FTP is the only method for submitting video. Please help.

I don't have a firewall turned on, so that can't be the problem. I've tried to connect with both my email adress that I provided (with which I can login perfectly onto the site itself), AND with my username Lyanna, both with and without the capital at the beginning. This lets me log in fine at the site, but with both versions I still get "login failed" when I try to FTP.

Seriously, I am logging in with the right credentials, I know it.

Uploading via browser plugin and http works like a charm, no problems there, so I can upload images. It's just that FTP is much faster and my preferred method, and I can't wrap my head around what could be going wrong.

For FileZilla, in the Site Manager make sure the logontype is set to Normal and the email address and CASE sensitive password are entered correctly.

Port 21 is not required.

Under the Advanced tab, servertype is Default.
Bypass proxy depends on a proxy. If no proxy, then unchecked.
Default local dir and remote dir boxes should be empty.

Tranfer settings tab should be set to passive.

I am 99.9% sure it is either your user id, your password, or the logontype.

Nothing is wrong with FTP.
It is either your client, your configuration or your ID/password.
If you have a firewall - temporarily disable it.
If you have all sorts of freaky antivirus stuff - temporarily disable it.
