Well, here's a few for starters- lets see if others can add to the list:

Jargon breaker

CA = Lateral Chromatic Aberration = (Color Fringing)
DOF = Depth of field ( perceived sharpness from near to far)
HD = hyperfocal distance = a point from which perceived depth of field covers from half the distance from that point to the camera; to infinity (which starts about 35ft into the scene) To clarify: If hyperfocal distance is 10 ft at a certain lens aperture, depth of field is from 5 ft to infinity.
IS = Image stabilisation Canon’s version of camera shake control in a lens
VR= Vibration reduction Nikon’s version of camera shake control in a lens
Diffraction = how light hits lens diaphragm, and disperses through lens elements affecting sharpness at small apertures.
HDR = High Dynamic range- Combining several 16-bit images, to extend the camera’s 5 stop exposure latitude to 10 stops, or more.
CCD = Charge-coupled device - Image Sensor
CMOS = Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor - Image sensor

Don't forget BME, BDE, WME etc....those are used here as much as any! And I've seen the question asked before as to what it means!

What about "fringing"? I see that alot, and I think I know what it means, but clarification would be great

"Fringing", (Lateral Chromatic Aberration) occurs due to a lens' inability to correct all 3 (Red;Blue;Green) light wavelengths to a common point of focus, leaving a colored fringe where light and dark meet. Apochromatic lenses, are the best answer to this phenomenon, but are seriously expensive. For lesser lenses,to lessen the problem don't use at full zoom length. The post-process answers are many, and here's just one of the ways to try to counterract fringing:

- Lateral chromatic aberration (fringing)

Ctrl+J select brush tool and click on the quick mask tool.
Choose a brush size to match the width of the fringe.
Trace over all the areas that have fringing. When done, click icon next to quick mask
Select> Inverse.
Image> Adjustments> Hue/Saturation and pick the color closest to your fringe color Click eyedropper on the fringe color on your image.
drag Saturation slider to the left until the fringing goes.
Select> deselect
Flatten and Save

Thanks..
