I would like to kindly ask you people owning Eos5D camera, to share your opinions and experiences with this camera and some of the lenses you're using. And, of course, if you'd bee so kind to show some of your photos taken with this camera that really present its possibilities.
Thanks very much!
I hope I'll be hearing from you soon.

I think 5D is really a fancy camera, but since 5d mark II is coming soon, it is worth to wait a while to direct go to 5D mark II for better performance |

I just recently upgraded to 5D from XTi (400D)- thank you, Shutterstock! Yes, there is a difference. The images are significantly cleaner. Less artifacts, more detail. You would expect it from the large sensor. It's also backed up by years of proven service. I got it during the latest Canon rebate program here in U.S., so the price was right (got a kit with 24-105 lens). Of course the glass is still No.1 concern - put a crappy lens in front of your body - nothing will help you. Most of my lenses are L series.
I haven't used it much yet - no time lately. You can check my port (sort by newest) - there are probably 20-30 images there from 5D. I'm not sure how much you can tell from previews though.
Anyway, highly recommend. |

You can find more photos than you can look at here: http://www.pbase.com/cameras/canon/eos_5d
I have the 5d w/ a 50mm and 85mm f/1.8, 24-70 f/2.8 and sigma 70-200 f/2.8. I have a wedding shoot on Saturday. I don't know if I would have tried a wedding if I was still using the 30d. It wouldn't have been a camera issue as much as a confidence issue. I know I can go to iso 1000 or 1250 with pretty good results. It's nice not having to do a conversion in your head when figuring the focal length of lens and you get to use the lens for what it was made for so to speak, that is, a 50mm was designed to be 50mm in 35mm camera instead of 50x1.6. I love prime lenses with it. I look forward to using an L prime, probably the 24mm prime.
I write too much late at night. Later. |

You know, there is a price to performance factor. The new one will cost $3500 to $3900 and the old one, ie 5d will probably drop another couple hundred to say $1600. The new one better be more than 2x as good.
And 5d isn't really a fancy camera, it's basically a 30d w/ full frame and a few extra custom funtions, and better sensor. |

I've been using a 40D since November 2007 and love it! But I wasn't happy with the noise -- even at 100 ISO and perfect studio lighting. It caused some of my images to get rejected here and elsewhere and caused a great deal of frustration for me!
Last month, I upgraded to the 5D with a 24-105mm L lens (during the Canon rebate) and haven't looked back. I immediately noticed my noise issue was almost 100% resolved, and the L lens is MUCH sharper than the 28-135mm I was using with the 40D. My 40D set-up is great, and I got some awesome shots with it, but the 5D instantly blew it away.
In addition to my 24-105mm L and 28-135mm, I have a 50mm f/1.8 and a 100mm Macro. Neither are L lenses, but I've been happy with both of these on the 40D and 5D. From here on out, I'll only be buying L lenses, so it will take a little longer to add a new prime or telephoto.
I am getting ready to do my first wedding and toddler portrait shoot (both in August), and I don't think I'd have the same confidence with my 40D as I now have with my 5D. So far, I've been beyond thrilled with the results from my 5D. |

I upgraded from the 300D to the 5D, and it was a big improvement in performance. The images have a much better quality (not just sharpness).
Drawbacks? Well, the LCD is hard to see in bright sunlight, there are a limited number of focusing points, and the frame rate is a slow 3 fps (not an issue for portrait and landscape shots). It would be nice to see all of these issues resolved with the next model.
I recommend waiting to see what the newest model has to offer, but you won't go wrong if you get the current one either.
Two last points for any full-frame upgrader (which should apply to the Nikon 700D as well):
1. If you are upgrading from a cropped camera, your lenses will not view the same. Lenses will look "shorter".
2. Get good glass. The full-sized sensors will show the defects, especially with cheap zoom lenses at the wide ends.
Good luck with your decision. |
