Does footage sell better when sound is accompanied with it or do buyers prefer no sound so that they can add their own?
thanks to any who offer advice!!

depends...
If it is relevant to the scene, keep it. If it is the sound of wind ruining the scene because it was windy that day, ditch it. If you are referring to your kids playing in the pool video you mentioned, I'd leave it. As long as you don't hear like a dog barking in the background ruining it :-).

If the buyers don't want it then it is very simple for them to drop it.

so guess I better dig out the tranquilizer gun and re-shoot, cause the neighbors dog barked the whole time i was shooting. maybe an extra dart or two for his brother's fighting behind me
thanks for your help!!

Hi Michelle,
One thing I would like to add to recording sound. Never use the on camera microphone. Get an external mic (as long as your camera has a jack for one) and use a wind sock or at least the foam wind screen that most mics come with.
The internal mics of most cameras don't record sound correctly and also record the sound of the camera. Motor, tape transport, etc.

I do notice that in some of my recordings Jake. With the HV30 you can only use the onboard sound if you are recording things that are much louder than the camera noise (zoom, tape, etc). Using the audio control you bring the levels back so the mic is less sensitive, and you won't pick up all that jazz. This seems to work for me.

Why old music rejected? For example, Mozart. I'm about violinist playing Mozart's music. Buyer must spend many forces to find and reconstruct sound.

I'm sure it's because of the copyright. if you didn't compose the music and play it, then someone owns it.

If has passed 75 years from the date of death of the composer, with its music it is possible to do everything.
Strange?
Who has own our clips after 75 years of ...?

With Mozart it's not the composition. That should be public domain by now.

It's the musician's interpretation. If you can get a release for that, it should be OK. That is, if Shutterstock accepts such releases, which, as far as I know, they don't.
