Dear Submitters:
Today we are launching a new family of subscriptions, called Shutterstock On Demand. These innovative lower-commitment plans are governed by our current Standard License and allow subscribers to download stock photos, illustrations and vectors anytime over a one-year period without any daily or monthly download limits. We are confident these new On Demand plans will help us reach buyers who cannot or will not buy a "25-a-day" subscription.
On Demand customers can download images anytime over a one-year period by paying a one-time fee of $49 or $229, depending on the quantity and resolution of the images desired. Within the plans, prices range from roughly $4 per download for smaller sizes to roughly $10 per download for the largest sizes and for vector images.
A few important details are below:
--We've updated our submitter payout earnings schedule:
http://submit.shutterstock.com/earnings_schedule.mhtml
The schedule now reflects the new payout rates for On Demand downloads: you will earn 3.25x your normal payout rate for "small/medium only" download, or 7.5x your normal payout rate for an "any size" download.
--Earnings from On Demand downloads will be counted toward your lifetime earnings figure and therefore will help you move toward the higher per download payout rates.
--On Demand plans are governed by the same Standard Licence as our 25-a-day plans. Therefore, On Demand will not have its own opt-in / opt-out functionality. All Submitters who make their images available on Shutterstock agree to license those images according to our Standard License, through both our 25-a-day and On Demand plans.
Concurrent with the On Demand launch, we're rolling out new functionality that permits a Shutterstock customer to have more than one active type of subscription at a time. They could, if they wanted to, have (1) a 25-a-day, (2) an On Demand "small/medium", (3) an On Demand "any size", and (4) an Enhanced License subscription all at once, and can now choose, on a download by download basis, which active plan their next download should apply to. Being able to manage more than one active plan at a time will help our customers take advantage of our entire product line, depending on their needs.
We've also extended the term of our Enhanced Licence subscriptions from one month to one year, to encourage purchases by customers who need more time to fully utilize their access to Shutterstock's growing library.
On Demand subscriptions will provide customers a great way to become comfortable with Shutterstock at a lower initial price point. They are also a perfect complement to our existing products, utilizing the same proven Standard License and the same premium library. We are thrilled that we are now able to meet the needs of virtually any image buyer, no matter how big or small, no matter how frequently they need fresh images.
As always, we're happy to hear from you at submit@shutterstock.com and we thank you for allowing us to represent your content.
Best Regards,

Sounds good. Just wonder how much of this will cannibalize current business. |

Sounds great. I don't think it'll cannibalize the current model -- the people that are subscribing the way they have been probably need that and will probably continue to use that. I suspect it'll just bring in new customers. Sounds good to me. |

initial gut reactions are positive here. the per unit pricing seems competitive, although the big split in the initial annual fee between low and high res plans leaves me wondering that it's a bit more complex than should be. certainly i like the higher price point for vectors. and timing before fall season is also good. let's keep fingers crossed. |

Absolutely it will attract customer with different profile needs. That is a good movement considering the microstock endless changes.
So let stay back and see the results... |
