I want to buy finally a reflex camera.
And honestly - I have no clue which one does the best job - meanwhile not crazy expensive.
I am looking at these one's with lenses - here hot offers at the moment:
Nikon D40 - lens 18-55 mm
Nikon D60 Kit lens AF - SDX 18-55 mm
Nikon D80 - lens 18-135 mm
Canon EOS 450 D - lens 18-55 IS mm
Canon EOS 1000 D - same lens
Olympus E520 Kit 14 -lens 14-42 mm
Olympus E420 -lens 17,5-45 mm
Using currently Olympus SP 560uz.
Thank you. |

I'm a Nikon user so I like Nikons, canon users like canon etc. All are good cameras it is just what you feel is the best after checking them all out.
Here is a good site that gives pretty unbiased reviews that should give you a good starting point.
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/
I would then go to a good camera store and get the feel of each one you are thinking about. Many times you may like what you hear or read about a camera but when you get it in your hands you just do not like the feel of it. |

Agree with what Dave wrote, but Nikon do have some advantages over Canon-Not sure about all models but the older D70 and D50 have these advantages:
Nikon advantages
Ability to use Trap focus
Max speed flash sync 1/4000/1/8000sec (depending on camera model)-off-camera
Superior kit lenses
1/500 sec flash sync-on camera
That said, Canon do have D.O.F.Preview and Mirror lock-up-you alone must decide which is more important to you-plus the camera has got to feel right for you.

hmmm.. I see... so it's little technic differences but more a "feel"-thing?
... On my way to a store and really try how they feel in my hands! :)
thank you,
regards to you both,

I think D80 and 450D are both good choice.
Nikon has better kit lens but 18-55IS with canon is also good, maybe the only kit lens with canon can said to be good.......

I agree, hold them in your hands, try them in the store. Look into available accessories (remotes, lenses, flashes.) Check some reviews for noise, speed of use, etc.
I like cameras that are easy to setup without going deep into the menus, and are easy to use in an all-manual mode. When I shot Nikons, I wanted a Canon. Now I shoot with Canons and sometimes wish for a Nikon. The grass IS always greener, I guess. |
