Sorry if this topic was already discussed, but it would be EXTREMELY helpful if Shutterstock could provide us tech-savvy geeks from Silicon Valley with some sort of API, perhaps XML-RPC, so that we could write our own apps or plugins to use with Aperture, Lightroom or Photoshop. I have an idea of the app that uploads selected images via FTP and then submits keywords, categories and descriptions via xml-rpc call. Then it can periodically check for the status and download statistics and store those data in EXIF. |

An API would be great particularly to create an image management solution. |

Well, I don't think the full-blown IM solution would be nessesary. Lightrom with its Library module, metadata editing and pretty good searching/filtering options is just enough for me. But it would be very convenient to submit images from within the Lightroom rather than uploading via FTP and then visiting the web page to edit keywords and categories.
I sent email to Shutterstock support yesterday but no answer yet. |

I do hope their developers know that ;)
Anyway, i agree, an API certainly would be cool, especially since we have a few developing-happy programmers around! |

I'm wondering if anyone from Shutterstock reads this. Can you guys please let us know if you have anything like this available for third party developers? |

BUMP
I am wanting to start a mini search engine type thing on my site and would love this API. Still no work I suppose. Every other stock site offers this and is a pretty easy thing to build. I would like to be able to make more money and send more money shutterstock's way since banner ads and link referrals are, like, so early 2000's :) |

Why don't you use the searchbox from this page, towards the bottom/ example3? SY

I would like to have more options of displaying images on my site. Would be more helpful to refer buyers if they could see example of what it offers directly on my site, not just my own work. |

Just FYI, my Export to $OTHER_MICROSTOCK_SITE plugin for Adobe Lightroom was downloaded 1145 times since it became available on Sep 13th 2008. I wrote it just for myself but then decided to make it available for download on my personal web site. I had no idea it will be so popular.
I will be more than happy to write a similar plugin for exporting images to Shutterstock but I definitely need some sort of API for that. I remember discussing it briefly with Shutterstock CTO about a year ago and I think it would be great if Shutterstock developers can get in touch with me so that we can discuss the requirements and features. |
