Ok, don't know what happened? I was playing around with the EV compensation button using the P, S & A modes and all seemed to work well - then, I went back to my M mode, all my chosen shutterspeeds seems to lag, no matter if is fast speed or slow. I have the Nikon D300 and this is all new to me.......

What does the highest speed & the slowest show as/reads on the control panel - I am asking this to make sure I am reading my shutter speeds correctly - for example what would 1/60 read as.......

I was able to use the fast and slower shutter speeds and now I can't.......

Would appreciate any kind of help or suggestions.

Well for starters, I have no idea what was wrong, so I just reset the camera and then went into all the settings etc in the menu (the one with the pencil) and set everything back to default.....worked like magic.......when I did that, I noticed that the timer was on so, maybe that was the problem - I made sure I turned it off and I don't use that function, at least not right now - I have too many other things to learn........

On Nikon bodies setting the exposure compensation in manual mode shifts the "0" exposure point by a given amount. In other words, if the correct exposure is 1/125s at F8, setting EC to -1 will cause the camera to show correct exposure at 1/250 F8. Resetting is as easy as setting EC to 0 ;) .

Cheers,
Stas.

I am confused by the above......I shutter speed was slow in all modes, I did not have any problem with the exposure...........It was lagging in speed like I was trying to freeze water motion or something.....but, now it is working hunky dory.....and I am happy.......

What did the photos look like when it was "lagging"?

my photos looked a little blurry - not sharp as I was hand holding the camera - and for the speed of the shutter, it was like I should have had it on a tripod.....

Maybe mirror lockup with timer was enabled? This can sound like a really slow shutterspeed, and would sound like the same speed for all shutter speeds. And would cause blurriness because you would probably move your hands/camera in consternation when it sounded like the shutter was taking a long time.

Just a guess.

Your Nikon has mirror lockup and a timer, right?
