Introducing ShutterStock Footage™ A Stock Video Resource from ShutterStock™
Revolutionizing the Category, Subscription-based Stock Photography Provider is the First to Extend its Offerings to Video
New York--February 9th, 2006 ShutterStock™, the largest subscription-based stock photo agency in the world, is pleased to announce the launch of ShutterStock Footage™, a new resource for stock video. The first among its competitors to expand into royalty-free video content, ShutterStock Footage™ - online at http://footage.shutterstock.com - is now accepting submissions, and will be ready to serve customers in the spring of 2006.
The introduction of video capabilities is the latest in a series of milestones for ShutterStock™. The past year has been marked by extraordinary growth for the company, a phenomenon that made ShutterStock. whose photo library now numbers close to 570,000 images - the largest subscription-based stock photo agency in the world in January of this year.
"We are thrilled to be branching into video," said Jon Oringer, ShutterStock's founder and CEO. "ShutterStock was founded to fill a gap in the stock photography market, and we see the same need among creative professionals working in video. People need premium quality footage that's easy to download, and affordable to use; ShutterStock Footage will provide just that."
ShutterStock Footage will offer a wide variety of royalty-free material, categorized by subject and searchable by keyword. Video clips will be up to one minute in length, and will range in price from $79 to $299 per clip, depending on resolution and quality. Once a video clip has been purchased, the customer can use the footage royalty-free, forever.
Videographers Wanted! Much like ShutterStock, which relies on over 20,000 photographers from around the world to generate their cutting-edge photo library, ShutterStock Footage™ is seeking top-quality submissions from videographers. All submitted footage will be evaluated by expert screeners, subject to strict criteria including resolution, quality, and subject matter. Footage that makes the cut will be posted to the site, becoming part of the video library. When customers download a given video clip, the videographer will earn a 30% commission on the sale price.
ShutterStock Footage. is now accepting submissions. Submission guidelines are as follows:
Length: one minute maximum
Resolution: standard resolution, 640 x 480 pixels, or higher
Format: QuickTime, WMV, MPG, DV, HDDV, AVI
Submitters are encouraged to visit http://footage.shutterstock.com to learn more about how to submit footage to the site.
"We are constantly impressed by the caliber of photographs we receive at ShutterStock and we expect no less for the video submissions to ShutterStock Footage," said Oringer. "We look forward to building strong, mutually-beneficial relationships with talented videographers - and to growing ShutterStock Footage together."
ShutterStock Footage is now live at http://footage.shutterstock.com and is accepting video submissions. Sales capabilities will launch in early spring 2006.

wow I did not expect that
what would be the minimal accepted quality ? If you shoot something intersting with a pocket digital camera, could that be accepted or does it have to come from some kind of semi professional videocamera ?
also, what would the preview look like for buyers ? watermark ? video downsized ? ... ?
great ! |

Lots of questions. But only one for the time being - basically can the footage be WITHOUT audio too. |

And here where all this photogs speculating abt price changes, I kind of knew it would be a new product for the customers to buy.
I hope SS does not expand too fast that things get out of control. Many a business goes down thru that road. I wonder if all this improvement comes about by borrowing money or all is from the daily cashflow!
SS must be making plenty of money, to be able to keep hiring more employees; reviewers, technicians, photogs, etc; that is a big expense even at minimun wage. Add to that, I hope there is even money left to pay Jon a dividend every first of the month.
Reviewing 10,000 photos per week and now video. Wow!

Amen!
I know that what I'm going to say may sound selfish, but.. I hope that the review time for photos won't be affected!.
Cheers

Wow. Now this is cosmic. My other big passion is video. What may be especially relevent is that I spent 36 years as a clinical microbiologist, so I'm very comfortable with a microscope. After I retired, I filmed and produced a 30 minute video of microscopic pond life. Remember biology in school with the amoeba and Paramecium? I sent demos to 6 places and got back 2 queries. I sent them the package but haven't heard from them so I guess nothing materialized although they said that they were very impressed with the material. So Jon, are you interested in educational video? Format-wise, I can supply DV if you want it, or of course, mpg or pretty much any other computer-friendly format. I believe my video work to be on par with my still image efforts, and out of 31 images, you folks have accepted 30 of them. Speaking of, I have a number of microscopic stills too, but I've not submitted them because, with the microscope, one gets a bit closer to the wavelength of light and resolution suffers. It's physics and it's unavoidable, but still, I haven't been able to bring myself to send them in. You've trained me too well!

Really not the first. In one russian photoagency anyone can by videoclips from the 10.000 hours.
But my question is about referral program. Is it working for Footage? If Yes what is commission per refferal videographer clip download? |
