Hello,
I've been doing some research on noise and I just want to make sure that I am understanding this correctly. When I look at a picture, of say a kind of white sky and see what appears to be little tiny dots of color, is that noise?
Second, I've been reading that you need to look at an image at 100% to see the noise. So what is 100%? I download all of my pictures to my computer in a folder, when I double clikc on them they come up in a much larger screen at a much larger size, would this be 100%?
Finally, what is a good program to use to get rid of the noise. I am using PS elements 3.0 now and last night discovered in the filters a filter to remove the noise. However, I'm not really sure how this works. I tried adjusting the settings, but I really didn't make any difference.

Thanks

1: yes

2: depends on the program viewing it. In Photoshop go to view, actual pixels.
Anyother program it should be under view as well. View/zoom etc etc

If you are not sure you can open the file from internet explorer (file, open, browse for the image) and IE will view it 100%

3) I haven't used it but most folks here swear by www.neatimage.com

Thanks so much for the reply. Hopefully my images will improve now that I know what to look for. I tried neatimage when I first started it but removed it because I couldn't figure out how to use it. I'm going to try it again and see if I can figure it out.

Thanks again

When viewing at 100% the image most likely will only be partially viewable on your monitor. You will have to scroll around to see it all and check it at this size for quality issues like focus and noise.

There are several types of noise and the specs or graininess is one of those types. Neat image does an excellent job of removing most types of noise but you can overdo it and get a plastic looking image so learn how to adjust the settings.
