Hey Jon I think this is a great idea to allow editorial photos, however does it really warrant a whole new forums for this one subject?

Edit: Not trying to sound mean or anything just from past experience too many forums can get pretty cluttered, very fast.

I think it does.. it's an entirely different type of stock photography.

It has it's own set of rules - and it's own subject manner.

It's nothing like commercial stock.

Hi Jon,

I never think about editorial pictures!
But, it's look like completely differents and for me, it's look like more difficult, isn't it?
Maybe, someone whom is friendly with this kind of pictures explain me a little more how to proced?

Thank you,

Good going Jon. If anything this really opens up the avenues for pictures you can have on the site. So photos of famous people without releases fall under this catagory? I remember one photographer who said he had pictures of Jackson.

"Editorial stock (photo illustration) receives lower fees, but the photos enjoy longer shelf-life and multiple sales over the long haul. Editorial stock is generally more introspective, sensitive, and universally appealing, and eventually can become historically significant. And the nature of most editorial markets, with less turnover of personnel, provide photographers with opportunities for long-term sales associations with buyers. All that marketing homework has a chance to reap more mileage."

The great thing about allowing editorial work on the site is that shutterstock and the photographers make the same fee up front for images that have a much longer shelf life.

Are you going to have an "editorial" checkbox so photographers can catoagorize their editorial stock?

This is great news!

I take lots of images of fashion shows - are they considered editorial as well? If they are, then I'll be a very busy man. :)

I do welcome this iniciative very much, however I've got a question...

Photos for editorial use, woulden't they require being sold as RM and not RF images ?

Woulden't that requice a different section to the site, and an otner pricestructure, as editorial photos do not sell in so larege numers as commercial - per pic that is ?

Could you please elaborate on this ?

I have a question regarding famous people in photos - are these photos considered editorial? For example, if I have photos with Michael Jackson (as news photos), do I still need a model release from Jackson, or is it all right to upload them as editorial?

By the way, another question: how should we upload editorial photos? Will there be a special category for this stuff? I failed to find one in the uploading section so far...
