C'mon guys, this is the best solution so far
Shout here and have our AGENT move where such illegal (additional) tax crap can be avoided
This or do as any other company that has tried that way, ignore the IRS, hire a bunch of good lawyers to keep them occupied
Or fail miserably!

We all know that list, but to prove that it's 0% we need to do the following:
- get document 8233
- pay $200 on legal documents
- send in your original passport to the IRS
- hope for a response in the next 18 months
- in the mean time lose 30% on your income

Shutterstock, please read this. Putting your contributors through this is extremely insulting to us. Shutterstock is my favourite microstock agency of all, and makes up almost 50% of my overall earnings. However, if I have to pay U.S. taxes in addition to my taxes here in Denmark, I will not hesitate to leave for good, and many others will do the same.
Move your business, and everyone will be happy. It's all numbers anyways, you don't have to be located in the U.S. where this stupid law applies.
There is no acceptance office in my country - do you expect me to travel to Germany or England to get an ITIN!? This is a joke!
Many people with experience have already stated that the ITIN is completely unnecessary. It seems that the IRS has made it incredibly difficult to foreign contributors to 'prove' that they do not have to pay U.S. taxes. You should not accept this behaviour from them. Stand up for us and show us that you do care about your contributors, because I know you do. |

Oh yes we DO have to proof! And not just have it stamped by a local official. (how to do it right is something still need to be figured out)
| Quote: | Hello Guys,
I just wanted to give you the information I collected so far in Germany:
Speaking to an American lawyer, who is an Acceptance Agent here, he stated the following:
- to get a ITIN number through the W-7 document, it is not enough to have a certified copy of you i.d. document
- it is much more important to have some kind of proof/document of shutterstock, that you work for them. This is called document 8233.
- then, to get positive feedback from the IRS is really hard to get, because the ITIN is a first step to become an American citizen (and after 9/11, that is not easy to achieve)
- He said, he will charge around 200€, which seems to be a very good priece, but still is far too much for the money I earn here... |

SS shouldn't pass this problem to the contributors or it WILL fail
We've already sent too much personal info. Not all sites require scan of passport to join. And some of them are as good as SS.
SS really should fix this problem on it's own cost.
We don't work in the USA, we ghave nothing to with that country and I personally never want to.
As we are the copiright holder of the images WE PAY SS the bigger share of the licensing price for it's service to help distribute our own products. The United States are not involved in my production process in any way.
Thanks |
