Yea, I think too - no need for a trip to city hall. These are the steps. Except for more than one document - you only need the notarized copy of your passport, that's all.
I strongly recommend to use the passport and not driver's license or Romanian ID. |

Yeah passport is the best, I thought they require two IDs, let me check again. |

IRS will accept certified or notarized copies of a combination (two or more) of the following documents, in lieu of a passport:
* National identification card (must show photo, name, current address, date of birth, and expiration date)
* U.S. driver's license
* Civil birth certificate (required for dependents under 18 years old)
* Foreign driver's license
* U.S. state identification card
* Foreign voter's registration card
* U.S. military identification card
* Foreign military identification card
* Visa
* U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) photo identification
* Medical records (dependents - under 14 years old only)
* School records (dependents and/or students - under 18 years old - only)

It seems this way, and I would opt for the passport and the national ID (CI) because the CI is the only that physically has an address written on it. |

I would also like to ask this question here too, maybe I'm not the only one in this situation.
Do I need an ITIN if I have a Social Security Number (SSN) but I'm a resident and citizen of Romania? |

So a legalized copy from any public notary will do? Or do we need an apostille and translation? |

Yes, I've been working in the US and also payed taxes there, so I have one and this thing doesn't expire... I'm just not sure if I can use it now. |

Deci se legalizeaza la primarie(city hall)? Si care? Pe sector sau cum? (Asta pentru cei din Bucuresti) sau a municipiului? Nici nu stiam ca fac asa cevav acolo. Notarele publice ar trebui sa fie si ele in conventia hague. Credeti ca ambasada sua ar putea fi de ajutor in vrun fel?
Si ca sa imi fie si mie foarte clar, acel "federal tax report" este inlocuit de scrisoarea de la ss, adica mailul printat? |

I think you can, I can't remember exactly but I read it on the IRS/ITIN page. You might want to have a look. I don't think the ITIN is for those who actually have a SSN. |

Aoleu, sunt in ceata totala. Mi se pare foarte complicata procedura. La notar mi-a refuzat copia legalizata la pasaport. |

Pentru ITIN trebuie fie pasaportul(original sau copie cu apostila), fie alte doua acte de identitate(traduse si apostilate).
Pasaportul nu trebuie tradus! Se face copie legalizata la orice notar. Apostila se pune la tribunalul pe raza caruia iti ai domiciliul. Apostila se pune doar pe copia legalizata. Fac precizarea asta ca sa fie.
Daca trimiteti pasaportul in original sau copie, nu mai este necesar nici un alt act de identitate.
