We saw a rather large jump in our download volume last November. It was about 3 times our previous normal volume. The good thing is that the new volume level has stayed with us ever since.

We had two or three images uploaded about that time that have been very good sellers. So what I am wondering is whether our increase was due to those images bringing us more traffic, or was there some sort of major event at Shutterstock (like maybe an advertising campaign) that resulted in a jump in download volume across the board.

So the question is: Did anyone else experience a significant jump last November?

Yes. My volume jumped in November and has grown slowly since then, but I just started in May and maybe was just getting ramped up by then.

in this month, I hardly see my downloaded images to have multiple download everyday. 95% of downlownload images has only single downloads.

anyway, my monthly download number is inscreasing a litle bit (due to inscreasing volume of my portfolio)

I had a large jump in November too. Royalties went up to about 160% of the previous months (which were all pretty at the same level) and have even been increasing since then. Perhaps some marketing campaign results kicked in in November ...

I had a good november (BME) but since then nothing but downhill, dl DECREASING every month in spite of me uploading images, it seems to make no difference.

In fact I am now seriously considering closing my SS account down and go exclusive at another site since my earnings there are 10x what I get here.
only reason for me holding off doing that for a little while is I have photos online on some places that have to be online for the next 90 days.

What puzzles me also is that SS is the ONLY microsite that is getting worse for me. All the others are increasing and every month on most of them are new records in revenue and dl for me.

So I am rather convinced there are issues with SS that are affecting some contributors and not others.

I do no buy into this ebb and flow thing anymore.
It is more than that when dl go down for 4 months straight AND it has absolutely NO effect to upload new pics for me, there is NO spike in sales the next days as it used to and hasnt been for some 8-10 weeks (for me that is) And this is a 180 degree turn from what things used to be up and until November last year.

So my guess is that there are some issues still with some servers and those that have their pics on those machines are getting hit hard because these pics are not showing up in searches and stuff ( just a guess but is the only explanation I can come up with that fits with some peaple getting record sales and others just standing still or going down over such a long period)
and I happen to be one of those that are seeing the negative side to this.
Since I see nothing to indicate that this is getting fixed I have no desire to spend time and upload here with no return and am starting to think it is better to go exclusive for the competition

I've been having some of these same thoughts. I love the SS community. And what I've learned here cannot be measured. But if my images aren't being downloaded, it's not benefitting me or SS to keep uploading them here. And my sales at all the sites I submit to (with the exception of one unlucky site) have all been increasing while SS is decreasing. I've been shooting, selecting and editing with SS standards in mind and then submitting the same images to all sites. I may have to rethink that strategy if things continue as they have.
